Only when transparency benefits the Obama administration…or harms it’s political enemies.
That’s right, it’s becoming more and more apparent that Obama’s release of the classified “torture” memos was done purely for political purposes. Yesterday, the CIA turned down former VP Cheney’s request to release memos that show valuable intelligence resulted from “enhanced interrogation” techniques.
The CIA has turned down former Vice President Cheney’s request to release memos he says would show waterboarding and other “enhanced interrogation techniques” produced valuable information that saved lives.
CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano says an executive order signed by former President Bush forbids the agency from declassifying documents that are the subject of pending litigation. The memos Cheney wants released are the subject of two Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.
“For that reason-and that reason only-CIA did not accept Mr. Cheney’s request,” Gamigliano said.
What a crock! Obama could declassify the documents and release them just as he did with the memos he selectively chose to publicize. In fact, releasing them should resolve the FOI litigation. He could kill two birds with one stone.
The simple fact is, the released memos serve Obama’s purpose–to disparage the Bush administration, while those demanded by Cheney would undo the damage the President already inflicted. Therefore, Obama (who until now never met a Bush executive order he didn’t want rescinded), supposedly running the most transparent administration in history, only allows half the story to be told.
Democratic President-elect has remained silent on the fighting in Gaza…until today when he expressed “concern” over the loss of life and promised he’s monitoring the situation closely. Shortly thereafter, an Al-Qaeda audio tape was released, reportedly the voice of Ayman al-Zawahiri, blaming the President-elect and Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak for the Israeli assault on Hamas in Gaza.
Recall that one of the themes of Obama’s campaign was to “repair our damaged reputation” in the world community. Biden even went so far as to blame Bush’s foreign policy for creating terrorists. The implication was that if Obama were elected, the clouds would part and we would be loved by those who hate us, respected by those who despise us. Perhaps now they’ll learn.
“My Muslim brothers and mujahedeens in Gaza and all over Palestine, with the help of God we are with you in the battle, we will direct our strikes against the crusader Jewish coalition wherever we can.”–Ayman al-Zawahiri
Of course Obama isn’t the cause of the campaign against Hamas, and al-Zawahiri knows this. This statement by the terror group just proves that radical Islamists don’t need a reason to hate us. They hate us because they believe it’s their religious duty to destroy us. I don’t know if Obama really understood this and simply lied to appeal to the left-wing nuts in this country who really do believe if we “just act right” the world will love and respect us, or if he is as naive as this tape proves his campaign rhetoric was.
The fact is, radical Islam will always hate us and will seek every opportunity to attack us, regardless of who occupies the White House.
The same is true for Israel. Until the radical, militant Hamas is destroyed or forced into submission, there can be no peace.
“The first is that you aren’t the ones who won the midterm elections, nor are the Republicans the ones who lost. Rather, the Mujahideen — the Muslim Ummah’s vanguard in Afghanistan and Iraq — are the ones who won, and the American forces and their Crusader allies are the ones who lost.”–Ayman al-Zawahiri
Now the fantasy world of the campaign is over and the reality should soon start setting in. Obama and Biden will find their promises are more easily spoken than fulfilled. It’s time to realize you’re either with the terrorists or against them.
Time to wake up, face the reality and decide which side you’re on Mr. President-elect. The terrorists’ or ours?
The 5 radical Muslim immigrants who plotted to attack Ft. Dixon, NJ were convicted today.
Jordanian-born cab driver Mohamad Shnewer; Turkish-born convenience store clerk Serdar Tatar; and brothers Dritan, Eljvir and Shain Duka, ethnic Albanians from the former Yugoslavia, who had a roofing business were convicted of conspiring to kill military personnel and now face life in prison.
The initial investigation was sparked by a patriotic Circuit City clerk who alerted FBI agents when members of the group dropped of a video of them firing assault rifles and shouting jihad slogans. The FBI then used informants to infiltrate the group which led to the arrests.
Defense attorneys argued the group was never serious, it was all just talk. But the criminal complaint against the convicted terrorists claims the group:
conducted firearms training in rural Pennsylvania
traveled to Ft. Dix to conduct surveillance
traveled to Dover AFB in Dover, Delaware to conduct surveillance
traveled to the United States Coast Guard Building in Philadelphia to conduct surveillance
acquired a map of Ft. Dix
collected weapons including handguns, shotguns, and assault rifles
reviewed terrorist training videos
conducted tactical training in Cherry Hill, NJ
ordered fully automatic machine guns
Sure sounds like they were serious to me!
Vice-president elect Joe Biden believes terrorists like these were created by our foreign policy. Biden places blame for terrorist acts such as these on Bush and Cheney. Rather than pen animals like this at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, he wants to close down the terrorist detention compound. The following video is an interview Biden gave George Stephanopoulis in which he said exactly that.
I criticize Bush for many of his policies, but I thank God he got this one right! Lives were spared because we caught these animals before they could rain terror inside our borders.
