Been There, Done That: Dems’ Strategy in MN

It looks like we can count on the Democrats to implement this “count ’til we win” strategy anytime we have a close election.

In 2000, in Florida they counted, counted, counted, and counted again and were prepared to count some more before SCOTUS finally put a stop to it.  Recall though, after the initial recount Democrats only wanted subsequent recounts in counties that would favor their party.  With sympathetic election officials using magnifying glasses to identify flyspecks that “obviously indicated” the voter intended to vote for Gore, Bush’s lead dwindled with each recount.  The Florida Supreme Court was perfectly willing to allow this obvious cheating until they “found” enough votes to put Gore on top.  Fortunately, SCOTUS put a stop to it before the Democratic thieves stole the election.

They tried to do the same thing in Ohio in 2004 in an effort to give the election to Kerry, but this time then-Ohio Secretary of State Ken Blackwell (currently a candidate for RNC Chairman) certified the vote to avoid this insanity yet again.  Though stealing 119,000 votes would have been a far more difficult task, the Democrats were ready to try.  Fortunately, Blackwell put an end to the “count ’til Dems win” process then.

That same year though, the Washington governor’s race was stolen using this Democratic strategy.  From the WSJ:

In Washington’s 2004 gubernatorial election, at least 1,392 felons illegally voted, 252 provisional ballots were wrongly counted, and 19 votes were cast from beyond the grave, according to Chelan County Superior Court Judge John Bridges’s opinion in a case brought by Dino Rossi, Ms. Gregoire’s Republican opponent.

King County election officials admitted to doctoring ballots as well as discovering and counting unsecured ballots. Even after the first recount Rossi was leading by 42 votes.  Then labor unions and left-wing groups such as Moveon.org pooled money to fund an expensive state-wide hand recount that gave Gregoire a 133 vote winning margin.  Little wonder in left-leaning Washington state.

And now, we’re seeing the same thing in MN with the US Senate race between Sen. Norm Coleman and comedian turned politician Al Franken.  Numerous recounts have double counted votes that almost certainly favored Franken, thrown out ballots that would likely favor Coleman, and dubiously divined voter intent to favor Franken on quite a few questionable ballots.

Evidently the new Democratic slogan in close races is “Count, count, count again.  We’ll count the votes until we win!”

Iranian students raid British diplomatic compound

TEHRAN (AFP) – A group of Iranian demonstrators stormed the British diplomatic compound in Tehran to protest London’s stance towards the Israeli onslaught on Gaza, state news agency IRNA reported.

“A large group of people and students entered the Gholhak gardens, which are occupied by the British embassy to protest at Britain’s policies in supporting the Zionist regime and put up the Palestinian flag there,” IRNA said Tuesday.

A media officer at the British embassy in Tehran confirmed the report adding that diplomatic police had driven the demonstrators out.

“We do confirm the raid on our premises. We are in contact with Islamic republic authorities to resolve the matter,” Mitra Behnam told AFP.

Israeli Consulate on Gaza via Twitter

Today, from 1-3 pm EST, the Israeli Consulate held a public press conference via the social networking site Twitter.  Under the username IsraelConsulate, the consulate fielded questions on all aspects of the military assault on Gaza.  You can view a list of questions asked along with the consulate’s response via the following links:

The following is my synopsis of the Q & A from the press conference, inferred from my reading of the questions and responses.  I’m not attempting to speak for the Israeli government, and I welcome any corrections or clarifications it wishes to make regarding my interpretation.  Many thanks to the Israeli Consulate for making this available to us via Twitter.–John Allison, III

Questions were fielded from a diverse group of Twitterers, including users sympathetic to Israel and those sympathetic to the terror group Hamas.  Some of the questions posed even came from inside Israel.  Topics covered addressed addressed the military action underway–it’s causes, conduct, and what will be required to end it, how to deal with the humanitarian crisis inside Gaza, and such things as the incident involving the Dignity and journalists’ access to the area.

The Israeli Consulate explained the cause of this military campaign was the firing of more than 10,000 rockets and mortars at Israeli civilian targets since 2001.  This Hamas assault endangers the lives of 500,000 Israelis.  Though civilian casualties are occurring, the IDF targets only military installations.  This policy is the exact opposite of Hamas, which intentionally targets civilians in an effort to maximize civilian casualties.

Though Hamas was elected to govern Gaza, the terror organization’s refusal to accept Israel’s right to exist and its policy of exterminating Israeli civilians disqualify it from being defined as a “Democratic” government in the eyes of the Israeli government.  The consulate emphatically stated the government of Israel is not declaring war on the Palestinian people of Gaza, and it mourns every lost civilian life–Palestinian or Israeli.  Civilian deaths are a result of Hamas’ placement of military installations in close proximity to civilians, in effect using those civilians as shields.  Israel believes Hamas relishes even Palestinian civilian deaths for their propaganda value.

Addressing the cease fire proposed by the international community, Israel desires peace and diplomacy to achieve it.  But, Hamas used these periods in the past to rearm, refortify, and strategize for the next wave of assaults against Israel.  The objective of the operation is to eliminate the threat of rocket and mortar attacks on 500,000 Israeli civilians.  When the IDF and the Israeli government believe that objective has been achieved, the operation will end.

Humanitarian aid is being allowed into Gaza.  Thirty-eight truckloads of supplies were allowed to cross the border today and 17,000 such truckloads entered before the violence began.  The wire services have correspondents in place inside Gaza, but more reporters are not being allowed in for their own safety.

Israel wants a peaceful, two-state solution.  However, as long as Hamas continues to deny its right to exist and attacks Israeli civilians, Hamas cannot be a part of that solution.

The consulate chose to conduct this press conference via Twitter because it noticed many on the web dispersing inaccurate information.  Israel continues to give press releases to the MSM, but believed this forum would help reduce the misinformation being propagated on the internet.

Well, President-elect Barack Hussein Obama’s old friend, old buddy, old pal Democratic Governor of Illinois Rod Blagojevich is certainly doing his best to disrupt what was looking to be a smooooth transition to the new administration.

Caught this month with his hand in the cookie jar on the FBI wiretaps swearing like a sailor and seeking to line his pockets soliciting prospects for the President-elect’s vacated Senate seat, today he’s crowing about his duty and responsibility to the people of Illinois in a press conference to appoint another old friend, old buddy, old pal, former Illinois Attorney General Roland Burris.

Too bad for him he wasn’t thinking about his duties and responsibilities when the FBI had his phones tapped.  Of course he claims he did nothing wrong as his attorney is seeking to have the evidence collected in the surveillance thrown out on a technicality.  Blago insists a political lynch mob is trying to force him from his job and he’ll fight them “until I take my last breath.”

This lynch mob he references includes the President-elect, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV), and virtually every other politician who’s made a statement on Blago’s predicament.  Obama has called on the Democratic governor to resign.  Reid says the Senate won’t seat any appointee of Blagojevich.  But the corrupt Democratic governor charged forward in defiance of them and so many others.

Blago stated in his news conference that this could have been appointed had the Illinois legislature called for a special election to fill the seat earlier this month.  But, the Democratic controlled legislature feared the Democratic governor’s criminal activity might have so angered the good people of the Land of Lincoln they would vote for a Republican to fill the seat of Blago’s old buddy, old friend, old pal Obama.

State law requires Blago to set a date for a special election to fill Rahm Emanuel’s vacated House seat.  Why not vote to fill Obama’s seat at the same time?  Rhetorical question.  We all know the answer.  God forbid an honest Republican might be afforded the opportunity to represent the state of Illinois in the Senate!

Maybe, just maybe…if Reid stands tall (which is a big if) and refuses to seat Burris, the Democrats in the Illinois state legislature will decide to do the right thing and give the good people who hail from the home state of Honest Abe the right to fill Obama’s Senate seat in an honest and upfront manner by calling for a special election.

Former US Rep. Cythia McKinney in the News Again

Thanks to The Intellectual Redneck for alerting me to this story!

Cynthia McKinney (yes the former US Congresswoman famous for open demonstrations of her stupidity), a member of the group Free Gaza, boarded the SS Dignity in Cyprus with several other “peace” activists intent on running the Israeli naval blockade of Gaza.  According to the Atlanta Journal Constitution, the group’s mission was to deliver medical supplies to the beleaguered terrorist state.

This left wing website sees this act as one the Green Party, under whose banner McKinney ran for President of the US in 2008, should take pride in.  But we expect such nonsense from the liberal activists who demand protection for Palestinian terrorists who intentionally kill Israeli women and children with their rockets and bombs.

McKinney made quite the name for herself in Congress when she struck a Capitol police officer with her cell phone in 2006.  Strutting through the Capitol without visible credentials she was unrecognized by the officer who simply asked for her identification.  Instead of showing it, she went into a tirade that resulted in the striking of the officer.  The left-wing activist Congresswoman then went on a public relations campaign leveling charges of racial profiling against the Capitol Police.  Eventually though, the embarassed Democratic Caucus pressured her to apologize for striking the officer.

She’s known for her dubious claims and outright lies.  According to her, Bush had prior knowledge of the 9/11 attacks.  Denouncing the Nobel Peace Prize, she claimed to speak on behalf of the millions who had died at the hand of the UN.  She’s been known to defend the tyrant President of Zimbabwe, Mugabe, who has led a once profitable and productive nation to poverty and famine. 

And now, this left-wing radical nutcase is taking on the State of Israel, challenging its right to defend itself against terror attacks launched from the Gaza Strip–that small strip of land ruled by the terror group Hamas.

This is not a mission of mercy for McKinney, it’s a publicity stunt.  And once again, an idiotic one.

$5 billion more for GMAC

Not only did President Bush give the Three Little Piggies (GM, Chrysler, and by extension the UAW) more money than they asked for, but now the Treasury Department is throwing $5 billion more GM’s way.  That’s on top of the $1 billion included in Bush’s Socialist bailout for GM last week that was dedicated to propping up this appendage of GM.

You might have read the other day that GMAC, the financing arm of GM, was given bank holding company status by the feds, allowing them to qualify for assistance from the seemingly bottomless pit known as the TARP fund. Today, GMAC hit the $5 billion jackpot from this fund that was originally intended to keep the banking industry from collapsing.

This just goes to show there’s no telling how deep into our (taxpayers’) wallets these at best incompetent, at worst corrupt and dishonest companies will be before this bailout/stimulus/Socialist conversion of our economy is over. So far, between the banks and the Three Little Piggies and whoever else has transformed themselves into something that qualifies for the right to spend our money to save them from their inability to properly run their companies, we the taxpayers are on the hook for more than $8 trillion–and we’re nowhere near the end of it yet.

Merry Christmas Little Piggies!  Go to sleep knowing that we’re paying and our children will be paying to keep you fat and happy, warm and comfy, and full of Christmas cheer.

I couldn’t agree more with Michelle here. Libs take every opportunity, justifiable or otherwise, to jab, jeer, insult, demonize, and ostracize conservative politicians but act taken aback, insulted, horrified, and shocked whenever one of their own is the butt of a joke.

As far as I’m concerned, they’d better prepare for 4 years of such hazing. It’s time they learned we can dish it out as well as we can take it.
