We’re back and ready to TEA Party!
by John Allison III, editor
If you were wondering if I’d been kidnapped and hauled away to a liberal re-education camp, or dropped off the face of the Earth, I haven’t.
I just had to step back for a few days and take advantage of the beautiful spring weather. Work demands more of my time as the spring semester winds down, along with all the honey-do’s that make the list as the weather warms and the trees bloom. I even took a few hours out and went fishing with my daughter on Sunday.
Now the primary elections are a little more than a month away in my home state of Arkansas and I guess I just needed a few days off to prepare myself for the sure-to-be hectic next 5 weeks.
This week, the last leg of the primary race will kick off with the first anniversary of the Tax Day Tea Party. On April 15, TEA Party rallies will be held across the country. I’ll be attending the rally in Little Rock, AR from 5:00 to 7:00 pm.
Arkansas Tea Party, Inc. has teamed up with Secure Arkansas and Americans for Prosperity to bring Dick Morris in as keynote speaker for the rally. And though neither politicians nor candidates will be addressing rally goers, Secure Arkansas plans to hold a Straw Poll for the US Senate, Congress, and perhaps some other races.
Though State Senator Gilbert Baker was running internet ads claiming Tea Party endorsements in the Arkansas Senate race, I’ve spoken with several Tea Party leaders across the state and have yet to find one Tea Party organization that endorsed him. In fact, most have explicitly stated their organizations will not endorse any candidate until after the primary election.
It’s no surprise that most GOP candidates would love to be able to rightly claim an endorsement by the Tea Party movement. Hence, we expect several candidates to be present at the event this Thursday. Though they won’t be addressing the crowd from the podium, they will be working the crowd seeking attendees’ votes in the straw poll. The winner of this straw poll will have the strongest claim yet to an endorsement by the movement that has swept the nation over the past year.
Thursday is your chance to make your voice heard. If you’re over 18, just bring your Arkansas driver’s license to participate in the straw poll. Join us to tell the politicians in Washington, DC that we’re fed up and we’re not going to take it anymore!
Here’s a video to get you in the mood for the one year anniversary of the conservative uprising known as the Tea Party!
