YouCut Initiative – Change the Culture of Federal Spending To a Culture of Saving

by Rep. Eric Cantor (R-VA), Republican Whip: announced an exciting new project devised by the House Republican Economic Working Group. Second, to take another step in earning your trust by showing you that we understand that actions speak louder than words.

We all know that Washington has a spending problem – and both Democrats AND Republicans bear some responsibility. But as I wrote last week, America is at a crossroads and the choices we make at this critical time will determine what kind of country we want to be. To get back on the right path, Congress MUST start to make some choices that simply can’t be delayed any longer.

While we won’t be able to solve our deficit problems overnight or with one silver bullet, we CAN and we MUST begin to replace the culture of spending that now dominates Washington with a culture of savings. Just imagine if your government was as focused on saving money as it is on spending money. Imagine if Congress spent less time naming post offices – 62 and counting – and more time reducing wasteful spending. Sounds nice, doesn’t it?

Today, we are launching YouCut – a first-of-its-kind project designed to defeat the permissive culture of runaway spending in Congress. It allows YOU to vote, both online and on your cell phone, on spending cuts that you want to see the House – YOUR HOUSE – enact. That’s right, instead of Washington telling YOU how THEY will spend YOUR money, YOU can tell THEM how to save it. After several days of voting, on Monday, May 17th, we will announce the first winner and later that week House Republicans will call for an up-or-down vote on the spending cut. We will repeat this cycle every week for the rest of the year. . . . [Read More]

Please drop by YOU CUT and vote to help us put Uncle Sam on a diet.

  1. I was shocked to hear that the US Government pays farmers in Wa State NOT to farm in order to promote price fixing. I would vote to abolish this horrible practice & if there is surplus to let the nation profit by having cheap healthy fruits & vegetables & to send the rest to places like Ethiopia.

    • Evelyn,

You make a good point. The purpose of farm subsidies is to keep farmers producing, and to ensure a reliable, inexpensive food supply to the population.

The same could be accomplished if the US govt would agree to purchase crops at guaranteed price, up to and including all surplus crops. That would have an even more reliable effect on market prices, and encourage the govt to spend the bulk of its foreign aid on American produce to feed nations not as blessed as we are.

  3. I wanna vote. Tell them to cut cut cut any and everything. Read an article earlier today that said Gov Perry of all people has been (stealing (my word)) from the people of Texas since 07. Cut everything. It’s not how money do they need. They’ve tried how much money you got and hand it over. Cut everything. This can’t be surgical shaving. Hatchet job in the 1st degree. They need to cut to the bone. Ain’t that what most of America has done?

  4. Last week I again made my yearly trip to the Insurance Agency for Huricane protection. We all know in Florida what that means and cost’s. Completing that my next stop was my Real-Estate Rep to discuss the future of selling our home. Explain this to me ! ! to insure my home in Florida the Company I use said I needed to have around 350K within a short walk to the Real-Estate office I know am told my home is only worth in the mid 250k’s ? I have owned this home for the last 35 to 40 yrs and made no attempt to gain Capital during the run up in the market but I sure as h_ _ _ as paying the cost of that stupidity. I agree this government needs to step up I am tired of paying my way and TOO MANY OTHERS as well. Those that represent us in State and National levels need to quickly understand enough ! take care of this ignorant carless type spending… you are breaking my back at 60 years old and I know I am NOT THE ONLY ONE
