Please Pray for “America, You Asked For It” Editor and His Wife

Bill Smith: It is with deep sadness, that I write and ask the readers of “America, You Asked For It” and for others to pray for our editor, John Allison and his wife Janice. They have lost their precious 17-year old daughter, Amanda, in a tragic shooting Saturday night.

I will not addressing the details of the shooting except to state that the young man who killed Amanda is in custody. Also, please pray for the Allison extended family, their friends, and for Amanda’s school classmates at Vilonia High School where John Allison was also a math teacher.

It would be fruitless for me to share more at this time. This is a horrible tragedy and a senseless loss for the family and friends.

Many know John as the creator, writer and editor of this site. He was also a father, a high school teacher, a local conservative activist, and an ex-Marine who loves his God, his family and his country.

As my friend, my heart breaks for John and Janice’s loss. No platitudes or further words will do.

Please – pray!

Your Taxes: Their Spending – Prepare for the Largest Tax Increases in History

Tomorrow is Tax Day, Earth Day and thank goodness for those opposed to all these taxes: a self-proclaimed TEA Party Day. The Obama Administration’s spending in the past year has been unprecedented and Tax Day won’t come and go quietly. In just over a year, Democrats in Washington have proposed trillions of dollars in new taxes on American Families — and passed hundreds of billions in new taxes to pay for their government takeover of our health care. These new taxes affect you and your family — every day.

Reflecting On “Good Friday”: The Purpose of the Passion

A shout out to the Tony Perkins and the Family Research Council staff and thank you for the following post:

The Purpose of the Passion can be summed up as — a second chance! The life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ provides a second chance for mankind to walk in relationship with the God who created them. The Scriptures make clear that through Adam sin entered the world, but through the life, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ there is justification for every man, woman, boy and girl–if they only place their trust in Him.

The passion of Christ provides a second chance for each of us to be right with God by being forgiven of everything and anything we have ever done. The death and resurrection of Jesus Christ gives you and me the ability to live life to its fullest because we can be free of guilt and be guided by a purpose that eclipses all that the world has to offer.

Mel Gibson, in his movie The Passion, captures both the need and the power of the second chance available to us through Christ. Jesus is praying in Gethsemane when the guards of the high priest arrive to arrest Him. The guards approach and ask for Jesus of Nazareth. Jesus identifies Himself and Judas comes up to Him and kisses Him, saying “Hail, Rabbi.” Jesus asks Judas why he is betraying “the Son of Man with a kiss?” Judas is stunned and steps back.

The guards move in to arrest Jesus. Suddenly, Peter explodes into action, attacking the guards. Ultimately, Peter pulls out a sword and cuts off the ear of one of the guards. Peter is eventually subdued, and Jesus tells him to drop his sword, saying, “Those who live by the sword die by the sword.” Then Jesus reaches down, picks up the guard’s severed ear, and looking into the guard’s eyes, heals him.

Jesus stands up, and the remaining guards move in and arrest Him — striking Him and handling Him roughly. They shove Him along the road and begin to leave. The healed guard is still on his knees, unmoving. His fellow guards tell him to get up and come along, but he cannot. The guard can no longer participate in anything that brings harm to the Christ.

He was left in the garden of Gethsemane to marvel at what the Savior had done for him. In the film, Peter, left behind, then comes face to face with the guard after Jesus healed his ear and touched his life. This is especially poignant, as within hours Peter would need that same forgiving touch of Jesus and a second chance.

This is the same Peter who had walked with Jesus (Matt 4:18-20). This is the same Peter who boldly declared that Jesus was the Son of God (Matt 16:13-17). This was the same Peter who committed to follow Jesus to the death (Matt 26:35). Despite all of this, Peter denied even knowing Jesus, not once, but three times (Matt 26:75). Was this the end for Peter? Was Peter beyond the forgiveness of Jesus Christ? Not at all! Following the resurrection, Jesus gave Peter a second chance (John 21:15-17).

The Purpose of the Passion is to give each of us a second chance. Whether you’re like the guard who came face to face with Jesus for the first time or whether you’re like Peter who had walked with Jesus in the past, declared who He is to others and even committed his life to Him, if something is separating you from the abundant life Jesus has obtained for you–a second chance awaits you. That’s the Purpose of the Passion.

“Remember the Alamo” Then and “Remember 3/21: Now!

by Ron Russell, TOTUS Most in this country know the phrase, “Remember the Alamo” and certainly all Texans know that rallying battle cry! The defeat at the Alamo marked the beginning of the war for Texas independence. A war that would end with the crowning victory at San Jacinto and an independent and free Texas.

Yesterday in Washington the forces of individualism suffered a great defeat at the hands of the over-whelming forces in the House combined with the might of the Executive Branch. The two hundred or so beleaguered members of the House could not withstand the onslaught of the vast army arrayed against them. Their walls were breached by back room deals, presidential promises and favors, and blatant bribery on a scale never seen before in American politics. In the end they were overwhelmed and crushed and their flag of patriotism trampled beneath the tyrant’s feet.

But from the ashes of that defeat, a new battle cry will be heard, a new call to arms. Just as the Texans of long ago screamed “remember the Alamo” as they charged the forces of tyranny; the ever growing forces of Individualism, of Patriotism will raise a new battle cry: “Remember 3/21” as they drive the forces of collectivism and Marxism from the field and achieve that Crowning Victory!

Inside Obama’s Budget

Okay, tell those who believe BHO’s BS, take a look at the projected individual vs corporate income tax receipts for budget years 2011-2020 on page 12 of Obama’s proposed budget.

Budget Year Individual Income Tax Receipts (Billions) Corporate Income Tax Receipts (Billions)
2011 1,121 297
2012 1,289 356
2013 1,386 371
2014 1,470 408
2015 1,542 366
2016 1,604 388
2017 1,659 388
2018 1,709 384
2019 1,753 383
2020 1,791 385

That’s a 60% increase in annual individual tax receipts over the next 10 years, vs. a 30% increase in corporate tax receipts over the same period.

It sounds like Obama either intends to dramatically boost individual income tax rates over the 10 year period, or doesn’t expect corporations to fare very well in the coming decade.

If we are forced to endure the President’s policies, both may well prove to be true.

CSPAN: Let’s make good on Obama’s call for transparency

by House Minority Leader John Boehner (R-OH)

Washington-Congressman John Boehner is strongly endorsing a request from the head of C-SPAN that the public have full access to health care negotiations as Democratic leaders continue to indicate they will shut the American people out and write a final bill behind closed doors.

“As House Republican Leader, I can confidently state that all House Republicans strongly endorse your proposal and stand ready to work with you to make it a reality,” Boehner wrote in response to a letter C-SPAN CEO Brian Lamb sent to congressional leaders. “Hard-working families won’t stand for having the future of their health care decided behind closed doors. These secret deliberations are a breeding ground for more of the kickbacks, shady deals and special-interest provisions that have become business as usual in Washington. Too much is at stake to have a final bill built on payoffs and pork-barrel spending.”

President Obama repeatedly promised on the campaign trail that health care reform negotiations would be public and broadcast on C-SPAN.

Transparency issues continue to dog Washington Democrats, who have compiled a troubling track-record of jamming through massive bills that have not been properly scrutinized. Boehner’s letter highlights the GOP’s congressional transparency initiative, a series of reform measures that includes a resolution introduced by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) requiring that these health care negotiations be made open to the public.

The letter to C-SPAN Chairman and CEO Brian Lamb is available here and follows:

January 5, 2010

Brian Lamb
Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, C-SPAN
400 N. Capitol St. NW
Suite 650
Washington, DC 20001

Dear Brian,

Thank you for your recent letter requesting that the American people have full access to health care reform negotiations. As House Republican Leader, I can confidently state that all House Republicans strongly endorse your proposal and stand ready to work with you to make it a reality.

C-SPAN’s role in fostering government transparency is so significant that on several occasions during the last presidential campaign, then-Sen. Barack Obama (D-IL) pledged that health care reform negotiations would be broadcast on C-SPAN so the “American people will know what’s going on.”

Unfortunately, the President, Speaker Pelosi, and Senate Majority Leader Reid now intend to shut out the American people at the most critical hour by skipping a bipartisan conference committee and hammering out a final health care bill in secret.

Of course, every issue of national import should be debated by the people’s elected representatives in full public view, but this is especially true with something as personal and important as health care. Clocking in at a combined 4,765 pages, the House and Senate health care bills propose drastic and expensive changes in the way Americans live. Dozens of differences between the two bills have been identified, including fundamental changes to the patient-doctor relationship.

Hard-working families won’t stand for having the future of their health care decided behind closed doors. These secret deliberations are a breeding ground for more of the kickbacks, shady deals and special-interest provisions that have become business as usual in Washington. Too much is at stake to have a final bill built on payoffs and pork-barrel spending.

As you know, congressional transparency has long been a concern of citizens and congressional observers, but never before has the need for reform been more apparent than in the past year under the Democratic majority. Republicans have listened to the American people and are committed to making Congress more accountable to the people it serves. In November, we proposed a congressional transparency initiative, a series of reform measures that includes a resolution introduced by Rep. Vern Buchanan (R-FL) requiring that these health care negotiations be made open to the public. While you await a response from Speaker Pelosi, we will continue to call on her to allow a vote on Rep. Buchanan’s resolution.

Since the first New England town meetings of the colonial era, open government has been a hallmark of American democracy. Over the last 30 years, C-SPAN has helped continue and strengthen that tradition. The American people are well served by your continued vigilance in this matter.

Sincerely,

John Boehner
Member of Congress
Republican Leader, U.S. House of Representatives

Did Obama Single-Handedly Defeat Global Warming in Denmark?

Under the blanket of a blinding blizzard, negotiators in Copenhagen charge ahead with efforts to forge an international agreement that will stem the tide of what they now call “Climate Change.” (Formerly known as Global Warming.)  The winter storm wasn’t all these Global Warming alarmists were ignoring as they donned coats, hats, scarves and gloves to demand action that they believe will lower temperatures.

Protesters, “green” organizations, and worst of all, delegates representing member states of the UN continued to ignore the words of leading scientists that have led some to call “Climate Change” the “worst scientific scandal of our generation.”

It’s understandable the nutcase treehuggers who hold no real job didn’t notice that the whole idea of man-made climate change is a fabricated hoax. They spend their entire lives protesting at some conference for some left wing cause or another.  The “green” organizations know the science is junk.  They’ve always known it.  They use it to convince citizens of the world that cow farts, SUVs, and even our own breathing are turning the Earth into a boiling cauldron, not because of some burning desire to save the world, but to extort money from those who swallow their left-wing line and those who don’t.

The extortion from sympathizers, believers, and followers comes in the form of donations to the left-wing organizations that support the professional protesters who pass through this life throwing rocks, breaking windows, and turning over cars in the street.  Those who don’t run for their lives when the radical left nut jobs play Chicken Little with issues like Global Warming…uh…I mean Climate Change…don’t voluntarily hand over their hard earned cash to the liberal loons so the extortion takes a little more effort where they’re concerned.  These involuntary victims of the leftist liberals are stripped of their worldly possessions for the good of the cause by taxation and/or government imposed mandates.

Those taxes and mandates were exactly what the shivering ambassadors from 193 countries sought to agree on at Copenhagen.  But negotiators seemed stymied, unable to reach an agreement as rich countries (those who would be required to pay said taxes) didn’t seem to want to part with as much of their wealth as poorer countries (those who would benefit from yet another liberal scheme to redistribute wealth) planned to take.  Then, US President Barack Obama arrived in the winter wonderland anomaly.

Believers and extortionists can now claim Obama’s powers of persuasion, though no longer capable of hypnotizing a majority of Americans, worked wonders on the chilly conference representatives’ ability to compromise.  With a flurry of last minute arm twisting, which included the President breaking protocol by bursting into a meeting of Chinese, Brazilian, Indian and South African leaders to demand they not negotiate in secret (funny how he doesn’t hold Democratic Senators to that standard on health care), the President forged an agreement between the US and those four countries that permitted him yet another opportunity to describe his accomplishment with his favorite adjective.

If Global Warming/Climate Change/[whatever the next name for the nonexistent threat propagated by the left] is real, the results of his “unprecedented” accomplishment must have been instantaneous, because the President had to leave Denmark before the agreement could be considered by the full conference in order to beat another blinding snowstorm descending on Washington, DC.

One can only imagine what weather conditions would have befallen the US capitol if Obama had failed in his quest to get something on paper before he left Copenhagen.  Air conditioning systems would likely be running full blast in the capitol city, creating an “unprecedented” December demand on coal-fired power plants to cool the sultry confines inside the beltway.  Imagine the “unprecedented” levels of CO2 that would have been emitted by DC denizens’ efforts to combat what would almost certainly have been an “unprecedented” heat wave this weekend. So be sure to email the White House and thank the President as you’re shoveling the snow from your driveway this weekend.

Global Warming/Climate Change/[whatever the radical left wants to call it this week] is nowhere to be found this weekend, thanks to the “unprecedented” pretentiousness of our President!

Of course, it’s more likely the leaked CRU emails we’ve read about really did point to a cover up by the scientific community to help guarantee a continually growing flow of research dollars help them manufacture more junk science and there was no more truth to Global Warming than to Al Gore’s claim that he invented the internet.

Polling Bad News for Blanche Lincoln

by Bill Smith: When polling numbers shows a senior senator in difficulty against potential candidates over a year out from the election, the news is bad news for that senator. And that is what is being projected for Arkansas’ U.S. Senator Blanche Lincoln who is up for election in 2010 and has been feverishly raising funds and avoiding the public at town halls and TEA Parties in Arkansas. Public Policy Polling latest polling data released August 26th shows that Obama campaigning for Sen. Lincoln in in Arkansas would sink her race. While Barack Obama’s National approval rating of 52%, in Arkansas, Obama has only a 40% approval rating. And that is expected to continue to fall in Arkansas. In fact, the polling numbers showed that a majority of voters in Arkansas think Rush Limbaugh has a superior vision for the country than Barack Obama.

Blanche Lincoln’s approval rating has dropped 9% since March.  Currently, Lincoln has 36% approval rating and a 44% disapproving rating of the job she’s doing. Currently, with no candidates formally filed for office against her, she’s in a statistical tie against three potential Republican opponents. And there are as many as eight candidates considering running against her.

Gilbert Baker leads her 42-40, Curtis Coleman has a 41-40 advantage, and Tom Cotton trails Lincoln slightly 40-39. The numbers of course are more a reflection on Lincoln’s unfavorable standing than that of the Republicans at this time.

“You couldn’t get a clearer indication that the national momentum is with Republicans right now than a poll showing some guys with single digit name recognition running even with an incumbent Senator,” said Dean Debnam, President of Public Policy Polling. “This is going to be a very closely contested race if the eventual Republican nominee does a good job of raising money.

Other indicators of running against Lincoln is that 53% of the people polled were women. In addition, 48% of those polled identified themselves as conservative, and 39% as moderate, leaving 12% of her liberal friends. At the beginning of 2009, voters returned Senator Pryor to a new six term without opposition; however, , his approval rating, although higher than Lincoln, is now only 47% with a disapproval rating of 32%. The voters disappointment with a previously considered “more conservative” Sen. Pryor may weigh heavily on voters in 2010 when considering returning a more liberal Senator Blanche Lincoln .

There is a growing “vote the bums” out feeling among the voters in Arkansas. Also, in Arkansas, continued open endorsement and support of Senator Lincoln by incumbent State constitutional officers (Governor, Lt. Governor, etc.) may place them at risk in 2010 if viable conservative candidates step forward to oppose them.

As summarized by Tom Jensen, Public Policy Polling, “Clearly Lincoln could be beaten, but there are several reasons why she might survive too. The first is that none of her potential Republican opponents have shown the ability yet to raise the money to run a strong campaign. Whoever emerges as her opponent is also going to need to be able to keep their foot out of their mouth, something that’s been a problem for some potential foes. The second is that Democrats nationally are in a recession right now and that goes a long way toward explaining these numbers.. . . Republicans have an opportunity here but it remains to be seen whether they can take advantage of it.”

AFP’s Patients First Bus Tour in Arkansas

Teresa Crossland-Oelke, Americans for Prosperity-Arkansas: Next week, Americans for Prosperity (AFP) Arkansas’ Patients First Bus Tour is rolling into your area! The tour has already visited Virginia and North Carolina and you would not BELIEVE the energy and excitement at these rallies! Hundreds of people have come out to show their support for free-market health care solutions, morning, noon and night, and local news media have been all over it.

As it becomes increasingly apparent that some Congressmen and women intend on voting against the will of the people, it is up to us to remind them who they work for. At each stop, we will have a press conference/rally before rolling onto the next city. Everyone will have an opportunity to sign our petition telling the government to keep their Hands Off Our Healthcare! Look at the list of cities below and see which bus tour stop you will attend! By doing so, signing petitions, and voicing your opinion we will make certain that Congress knows that if they continue to ignore us (their employer) they will find themselves without a job in 2010.
