More Partisan Hackery

Congressional Democrats aren’t interested in what the CIA said to Congress. They’re interested in protecting Nancy Pelosi.

by Stephen F. Hayes and William Kristol at The Weekly Standard

Late Friday afternoon, Silvestre Reyes, chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, announced that his panel would be undertaking a formal investigation of the CIA. The ostensible subject of the probe is a highly classified program that targeted al Qaeda leaders for assassination and which CIA director Leon Panetta briefed the committee about on June 24.

“After careful consideration and consultation with the Ranking Minority Member and other members of the Committee, the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence will conduct an investigation into possible violations of federal law, including the National Security Act of 1947,” Reyes said in a statement.

Let us offer to save the distinguished chairman some time, and the taxpayers some money: Forget it. There were no violations of federal law. Dennis Blair, Barack Obama’s director of national intelligence, told the Washington Post that the CIA was not required to brief Congress about a program that appears never to have been implemented. In either case, the statute that governs these matters leaves such notification to the discretion of the executive branch. And within minutes of the announcement of the investigation, and despite Reyes’s claim of having consulted him, Representative Pete Hoekstra, the ranking minority member, blasted the probe as “partisan” hackery.

From the Conservative Net

This is the first of what I intend to be a weekly series.

It’s just impossible to write an original post on everything that needs covering, so each weekend I’ll post an excerpt from other blogs I follow of articles on issues that I simply couldn’t find the time to cover that week.

The Right Stuff….

I’m so proud of Carrie Prejean. When asked her opinion about a current divisive political issue during the Miss USA pageant, she took the more difficult path of honesty. Some might have chosen the easier, more traveled path of evasiveness or outright dishonesty, but she chose the “road less traveled.” She gave her opinion in an almost apologetic way, stating clearly that she didn’t wish to offend anyone.

New York Times Reports Half The Story in Afghanistan

On today’s front page, the New York Times goes to every effort to recreate the narrative of Mai-Lai in Vietnam, only this time in Afghanistan. Unfortunately, they do so with only half the story. This much we think we know: One night last week, American forces in the middle of a drawn out battle with insurgent Taliban forces, launched an aerial attack on enemy targets. It appears many civilians were killed during the battle.

Pelosi, the CIA, and the Dems’ dangerous blame game

We had dueling press conferences this morning with Nancy Pelosi accusing the Bush CIA of lying to her about waterboarding and House GOP leader John Boehner defending the integrity of the briefers.

Pelosi had a particularly frozen look on her face throughout her presser as she repeated the “Bush lied about Iraq” mantra to justify her own inaction:

Most transparent admininstration?

Only when transparency benefits the Obama administration…or harms it’s political enemies.

That’s right, it’s becoming more and more apparent that Obama’s release of the classified “torture” memos was done purely for political purposes.  Yesterday, the CIA turned down former VP Cheney’s request to release memos that show valuable intelligence resulted from “enhanced interrogation” techniques.

From Fox News:

The CIA has turned down former Vice President Cheney’s request to release memos he says would show waterboarding and other “enhanced interrogation techniques” produced valuable information that saved lives.

CIA spokesman Paul Gimigliano says an executive order signed by former President Bush forbids the agency from declassifying documents that are the subject of pending litigation. The memos Cheney wants released are the subject of two Freedom of Information Act lawsuits.

“For that reason-and that reason only-CIA did not accept Mr. Cheney’s request,” Gamigliano said.

What a crock! Obama could declassify the documents and release them just as he did with the memos he selectively chose to publicize. In fact, releasing them should resolve the FOI litigation. He could kill two birds with one stone.

The simple fact is, the released memos serve Obama’s purpose–to disparage the Bush administration, while those demanded by Cheney would undo the damage the President already inflicted. Therefore, Obama (who until now never met a Bush executive order he didn’t want rescinded), supposedly running the most transparent administration in history, only allows half the story to be told.

Obama Flips on Prosecution for Interrogations

First he swore he wouldn’t, now he’s leaving the door open to prosecute those who formulated the Bush policy of enhanced interrogation techniques (aka torture according to those who seem to forget the 3,000 Americans who were murdered on 9/11.)

When he released the previously classified “torture memos,” he unequivocally stated there would be no prosecutions of those involved.  Now though, he’s ready to throw these guys to the wolves as he continues his campaign to discredit and denigrate the previous administration in order to satisfy the bloodlust of his radical left-wing base and boost his own poll numbers.

The President evidently doesn’t care, even a little, that his actions damage our ability to disrupt the plans of those who seek to murder our citizens.  He ignored calls from current and former intelligence specialists to not release these memos, and even edited his own CIA chief’s memo to exclude admissions that the enhanced interrogation techniques produced results that disrupted terror plots and led to the arrest of terrorists in our own country!

At best, he doesn’t even realize the propaganda value of this crap to the terrorists.  At worst, he realizes the benefit to our enemies, but is perfectly willing to provide it in order to sustain his own popularity!

But don’t worry America, he’s keeping his eyes on all conservatives in an effort to protect you from us!  Even though the DHS admits they can find no evidence of right-wing extremist plots, Obama thinks the best strategy for keeping you safe is to apologize to and appease those who perpetrated the most heinous attack on our homeland in history while his administration focuses its attention on his political enemies here at home.

God help us all.

Feinstein wanted “intelligence” in CIA

Digg!
#TCOT #diggconsc_a

It appears that Senator Diane Feinstein (D-CA) isn’t happy at all with President-elect Barack Hussein Obama’s choice to head the CIA.  CNN’s headline reads Feinstein slams Obama CIA head pick.  Perhaps she thought Obama’s campaign promises of “change” were more than just so much hot air.  Instead, we keep getting more DC insiders.

What experience qualifies Leon Panetta to head the agency tasked with gathering intelligence on international terrorists?  None, in the intelligence field.  But, Mr. Panetta is steeped in experience rubbing elbows inside the beltway.  From 1966 to 1971 he served as an assistant to various politicians and bureaucrats, then returned to California to practice law until he was elected to Congress in 1977.  He left that position in 1993 to take a job in the Clinton administration and became Clinton’s chief of staff in 1994.  He and his wife now run the Leon & Sylvia Panetta Institute for Public Policy.

Could the appointment of one with no experience in intelligence be a signal of Obama’s disdain for the agency?  If so, we’d better be ready for trouble.  The Clinton CIA budget cuts led to serious repercussions.  If we start down that path again while the War on Terror is ongoing, the effects could be disastrous.  But hey, any good lawyer should be able to run a spy network, right?

I rarely agree with Feinstein, but this time she’s right to question the intelligence of BO’s choice.

Finally, we might be getting a glimpse of the long-awaited “change” we’ve heard about for the last couple of years.  Obama wants to take the “intelligence” out of the CIA!

Sleep tight America, a lawyer/politician will be watching over you for a few years!
