Obama takes jab at Tea Parties…

Joining left-wing hack Janeane Garofalo, Democratic Rep. Jan Schakowski, and the MSM in trashing the hundreds of thousands of us who participated in the Tea Parties, the Obamessiah implied Americans concerned over his tax and spend policies aren’t serious.

This arrogant, insolent Chicago shyster has his elitist nose so high in the air he just can’t believe anyone with a measurable IQ could disagree with him!

Well Mr. President, we are serious. We seriously believe you are burdening our children and grandchildren with a mountain of debt that will enslave them to supporting your bloated federal bureaucracy long after you’re gone. We seriously believe your apologizing to and embracing of ruthless dictators who consistently call for the destruction and demise of the US damages our national security and our world standing. We seriously believe the private sector can run corporations more efficiently than can the federal government.

We are serious Mr. President, but go ahead, continue to take us lightly.

MN Court Rules for Franken

#tcot

Sen. Coleman has 10 days to appeal this decision to the state Supreme Court, but MN Dems are another step closer to stealing this seat.

One step closer to claiming the honor of having seated this clown in the US Senate…

And don’t forget how the MN election officials overturned (stole) Coleman’s election night victory through a very questionable recount…

Spineless Dems to seat “tainted” Burris

Digg!
#TCOT #diggcons

Following corrupt Illinois’ Democratic Governor Rod “The Senate Seat Salesman” Blagojevich’s appointment of Roland Burris to fill President-elect Obama’s vacated Senate seat, Democrats in the US Senate publicly took a principled stand, vowing not to seat Roland Burris.

From UPI, 1-4-09

“Blagojevich obviously is a corrupt individual. I think that’s pretty clear,” Reid said. “And the reason that he’s done what he’s done is to divert attention from the arrest that was just made of him and the indictment which will be coming in a few days, according to the U.S. attorney in Illinois. That’s why President-elect Obama agreed with us that Mr. Burris is tainted.”

From FoxNews:  Statement by Senate Democratic Leadership on Burris’ appointment 12-30-08

It is truly regrettable that despite requests from all 50 Democratic Senators and public officials throughout Illinois, Gov. Blagojevich would take the imprudent step of appointing someone to the United States Senate who would serve under a shadow and be plagued by questions of impropriety. We say this without prejudice toward Roland Burris’s ability, and we respect his years of public service. But this is not about Mr. Burris; it is about the integrity of a governor accused of attempting to sell this United States Senate seat. Under these circumstances, anyone appointed by Gov. Blagojevich cannot be an effective representative of the people of Illinois and, as we have said, will not be seated by the Democratic Caucus.

Next week we will start one of the most important debates of the year — outlining an economic recovery plan to create jobs and invest in America. And in the coming weeks, we will be working to protect homeowners and consumers, make America more energy independent, strengthen our national security, and improve health care and educational opportunities. There is much work to do and a lot at stake. It is thus critical that Illinois and every other state have two seated Senators without delay.

We again urge Gov. Blagojevich to not make this appointment. It is unfair to Mr. Burris, it is unfair to the people of Illinois and it will ultimately not stand. The governor must put the interests of the people of Illinois and all Americans first by stepping aside now and letting his successor appoint someone who we will seat.

President-elect Obama concurred with Senate Dems and reiterated his previous call for his old buddy, old pal, old friend Blagojevich to step aside and allow “a lawful and appropriate succession to take place.”

Apparently, its principles be damned for Democrats though–if there’s a chance it could mean losing a Senate seat to an untarnished Republican.

Obama vacillated, on January 7, stating he’d be willing to work with him if he was seated and pressured Reid to sweep the “tainted” (remember, that’s what Reid called him) appointee into his seat.  You see, with so much focus on Blago’s troubles, the idea of Obamatopia was quickly fading as the fingers of the scandal reached closer to the President-elect.

Reid, as does a cowardly dog, tucked his tail and scurried from his previous principled position.  Today, he announced that Senate Democrats will seat the “tainted” Burris, throwing principles to the wind and further undermining Democratic claims of honesty and transparency.

In the final analysis, it all boils down to Democrats’ unwillingness to stand on principle if it might mean losing a seat in their near filibuster proof majority.  Principle is valueless if it might cost them anything.

Reid, Dems, and RINO’s block debate on pork laden bill

Digg!
#TCOT #diggcons

Today, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) forced a vote to block debate on a $10 billion, pork-laden Omnibus Lands bill. Sixty-six RINO’s and Democrats gave the move enough votes to get around a filibuster by Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) who had successfully blocked the legislation last year.

The bill was laden with “wasteful projects” according to Coburn, who for several months has been on a mission to cut Republican (RINO) and Democrat Senators’ pet projects from the bill.

With recent Democratic infighting over President-elect Obama’s warnings that pork will be excluded from his Generational Theft Act of 2009, one can only assume Reid, his Democratic cronies, and the RINOs (who are largely responsible for the dismal performance of the GOP in November’s elections) want to spend all they can, just in case Obama proves true to his word. Reid didn’t comment on Coburn’s charges of waste, but instead stated he was simply trying to get as much accomplished as possible before Obama’s inauguration next week.

Below is a list of all RINO senators who voted with Reid, complete with links to contact them.  I will be contacting each of these senators by phone and email this week to express my displeasure and encourage everyone who wishes to see our elected representatives spend our money responsibly to do the same.

RINOs Who Voted With Reid on Omnibus Lands Bill

Senator Lisa Murkowski (R-AK)

Senator James Risch (R-ID)

Senator Richard Lugar (R-IN)

Senator Susan Collins (R-ME)

Senator Olympia Snowe (R-ME)*

Senator Thad Cohran (R-MS)

Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS)

Senator Robert Bennett (R-UT)

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT)

Senator John Barrasso (R-WY)

Senator Michael Enzi (R-WY)

*Senator Snowe’s website is unavailable as of this writing.

I’ll be emailing each of their offices a list of questions on Friday to give them a chance to explain their vote. I’ll follow up with a phone call to those who don’t respond by Tuesday of next week.  If you have any questions you’d like me to ask, please leave them in the comment thread on this post. I’ll report back with their responses in a follow-up post.

More Democratic Corruption: Baltimore Mayor

Digg!
#TCOT #diggcons

Baltimore Mayor Sheila Dixon was indicted yesterday on 12 counts of corruption involving undeclared gifts from developer Ron Lipscomb and her use of gift cards that had been donated to the city for use by poor residents.  You can view the state prosecutor’s indictment here.

Not surprisingly, the CNN article linked above makes no mention of  Dixon’s political party.  The MSM is again trying to minimize the damage to the Democratic Party.

The indictment comes after a 3-year investigation of Baltimore City Hall by the State of Maryland.  Others involved in the corruption have already been indicted, including a former campaign manager of Ms. Dixon, Lipscomb who is also formerly dated Mayor Dixon, and others on the City Council.

In June of last year, Dixon lashed out at reporters and prosecuters when parts of the investigation came to light.  Vowing that she would “survive this,” she claimed she could not respond to the damning information made public without damaging her case.

It seems to me if the allegations are unfounded, any response that supported her claim of innocence could hardly do more harm than good for her case.

She was under investigation in January of last year when she endorsed then-Senator Barack Hussein Obama for President.  When she stated she believed Obama “will provide the resources for us to continue with our agenda moving forward,” perhaps she saw an opportunity to grab some of those resources for herself.

Even though the ongoing investigation was public knowledge, Obama lavished praise on Dixon at the time:

Senator Barack Obama said, “As the first woman to hold this office in Baltimore, Mayor Dixon is a trailblazer, and she has spent a lifetime working to make life better for Baltimore’s families. From her years as a Kindergarten teacher to serving as president of the Baltimore City Council to fighting poverty and homelessness as Baltimore’s mayor, Mayor Dixon has worked to bring change that matters in people’s lives. As a working mother herself, she knows firsthand the demands on working families in our country, and she is committed to making policies that work for the future of Baltimore. I look forward to working with her to bring change in the months and years to come.”

Maybe she was trying to get a better feel for how the working poor live when she stole their gift cards that were donated to help them out, but I seriously doubt it.

One might argue that perhaps Obama’s praise of a public officeholder who was under investigation shows a lack of good judgment on the part of the President-elect.

Reid Ignores Economy in Favor of Pork

Press Release from Senator Jim Demint (R-SC)

Reid Ignores Economy to Force Vote on Pork Laden Omnibus Lands Bill

Democrat Majority Leader has allowed a vote on only 1 Republican amendment in last 6 months

January 9, 2009 – Washington, D.C. – Today, U.S. Senator Jim DeMint (R-South Carolina) made the following statement regarding Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid’s (D-Nevada) decision to hold the first vote of the 111th Congress this Sunday on a massive omnibus lands bill that contains numerous wasteful earmarks:

“This Sunday charade is proof that while President-Elect Obama talks about change and bipartisanship, the Senate Majority Leader is stuck in the partisan past. Instead of focusing on the economy, he has dusted off a pork laden lobbyist-giveaway bill from the previous Congress,” said Senator DeMint.

“This bill is 1,294 pages of pork, land-grabs, and other special interest goodies. According to the Congressional Research Service, many provisions of this bill are quite controversial. Many others are just plain ridiculous, such as $3.5 million to help celebrate the 450th birthday of St. Augustine Florida — in 2015, $5 million for botanical gardens in Hawaii and Florida, a $14 million tropical research institute in Panama, and a $12 million orchid museum in Maryland. And according to Americans for Tax Reform, Reid’s omnibus would hurt American energy by ending exploration on lands that are estimated to provide 300 million barrels of proven oil and 8.8 trillion cubic feet of natural gas.

“Senator Coburn reached out to the Majority Leader last week and asked whether he would be able to offer a limited number of reasonable amendments to the bill, as is his right as a senator. The Majority Leader’s response: Nothing. Not even one amendment to strike wasteful programs.

“The Senate has only voted on one Republican amendment in the last six months, and it is clear that Senator Reid is returning to business as usual.

“The Democrat Leader runs the Senate like a kindergarten. If we don’t follow his instructions, he keeps the whole class after school.

“Tom Coburn has an election certificate from the people of Oklahoma, and he has the same right to the floor as the Majority Leader. He is a hero and he will have my full support every step of the way as he fights for the American taxpayer,” said Senator DeMint.

Obamatopia not what Dems envisioned

#TCOT #diggcons

Remember how they gloated on November 4?  Do you recall the appearance of cohesiveness displayed after the Dems practically swept the elections?

Oh, all was right with the world, their dream was about to be realized…or was it?  After all, their dream was about consolidating power in the hands of  “progressive” politicians–translated:  those who take money from a few people and give some of it to a lot of other people to buy votes.

Now that unseverable bond in November is beginning to fall apart.

You see, Obama’s Democratic allies were foaming at the mouth to confiscate more of your money to fund their pet projects in their perpetual pursuit of re-election.  But shock of all shocks, the other day Obama declared he would ban his former colleagues’ from including pork barrel projects from his stimulus package, promising to post all budget data online and making government spending more transparent.

His liberal buddies didn’t make too many waves over this, probably figuring they had the know how to slip their little projects in without being noticed, or that Obama was just pandering to the crowd and didn’t really mean it.  Senator Kent Conrad (D-ND) couldn’t stay completely quiet though and pointed out that “some earmark projects have proven tremendously popular and effective over the years.”  And besides, Obama made the remarks after stating his plans to spend almost a trillion dollars to stimulate the economy!  The Dems in Congress were probably drooling on themselves thinking about all that money they were going to get to spend.

But today, the seams that coalesced the Democratic Party two short months ago really started loosening.  When congressional libs heard the phrase they dread more than any other was part of the plan–tax cuts.

Now I haven’t seen too many details of Obama’s planned tax cuts, so I can’t say if I agree with it or not.  But the reaction from some Democrats make clear they don’t like it

Sen. Conrad’s comments illustrate his ineptitude where the economy’s concerned–“If I’m a business person, it’s unlikely if you give me a several-thousand-dollar credit that I’m going to hire people if I can’t sell the products they’re producing.”

Can the Senator not understand the simple economic concept that more money in the hands of the people increases consumer spending which in turn creates demand for products and services that force employers to hire?

Senator John Kerry (D-MA) would “rather spend the money on the infrastructure, on direct investment, on energy conversion, on other kinds of things that much more directly, much more rapidly and much more certainly create a real job.”   You can bet he knows just what projects he has in mind.  In other words, he’ll just call his pork projects infrastructure, energy conversion, and other kinds of things to create jobs for which there is no current demand!

Senator Kerry, real jobs are created by consumer spending which is a direct result of consumers keeping more of their own money.

One more Democratic economic genius moron, Senator Ron Wyden (D-OR) doesn’t think much of Obama’s proposed tax credits that would put $10-$20 more per week in almost everyone’s pocket.  “In tough times people don’t respond all that well to marginal changes, such as a small amount of money added per paycheck,” Wyden said.  (Meaning they don’t spend enough money under these circumstances.)

This takes the cake for moronic rationale.  Senator Wyden, when “times are tough” it’s because it takes all they have or more to live.  Putting a few dollars more in their pockets means they will spend that money because they have to!  Consumer spending will increase, and as I’ve already stated, and will drive up demand for goods and services forcing businesses to hire.

Good grief, this isn’t rocket science.

But these Dems who want you to believe that tax cuts are the equivalent of spending already know all this.  They really do understand.  They just don’t want you to understand.  Their power is derived straight from their ability to control how money is spent and what it is spent on.  Giving you control of money to stimulate the economy means (in their eyes) taking it away from them and with it goes the ability to wield their power.

As I said earlier, this is not an endorsement of Obama’s tax cuts.  Dems have a nasty habit of mislabeling wealth redistribution as tax cuts.  We need to see a lot more details before I can say whether I agree with these or not.

I will say though, the fact that these liberal Democrats don’t like it makes me believe at least parts of it may be alright.

Another Obama appointee w/ pay-to-play troubles

Digg!
#TCOT #diggcons

0000018fRemember all the promises of “change”? Well, if this is the change a majority of Americans were seeking, we’re in trouble. Bush has made mistakes, a lot of them, but scandals and shady deals seem to follow this Obama crowd everywhere. Read all about Hillary’s Pay-to-Play troubles here on Obamanoms.

Remember the big scandals in 2000 with Bush appointees–Linda Chavez had employeed an illegal alien as her maid and–cover your children’s eyes to protect them from reading this one–John Ashcroft was a Christian! Oh how the liberals screamed and cried and condemned the President for choosing such threats to society. They probably believed we’d have been better off if Satan himself resided in the White House.

All of you who bought into Obama’s promise of “change” can be happy though. Things are changing. We’re going to have a White House operating under Chicago style politics for the next four years.

Funny Business in Minnesota

from WSJ–Opinion

Strange things keep happening in Minnesota, where the disputed recount in the Senate race between Norm Coleman and Al Franken may be nearing a dubious outcome. Thanks to the machinations of Democratic Secretary of State Mark Ritchie and a meek state Canvassing Board, Mr. Franken may emerge as an illegitimate victor.

Mr. Franken started the recount 215 votes behind Senator Coleman, but he now claims a 225-vote lead and suddenly the man who was insisting on “counting every vote” wants to shut the process down. He’s getting help from Mr. Ritchie and his four fellow Canvassing Board members, who have delivered inconsistent rulings and are ignoring glaring problems with the tallies.
