Blago Impeached!

blagoIllinois’ state representatives voted overwhelmingly to impeach Governor Rod “The Senate Seat Salesman” Blagojevich.  Blago is the first governor in the history of Abe Lincoln’s homestate to earn this (dis)honor.

One dissenter, Chicago Democratic Rep. Milton Patterson voted “present” and replied that he was just doing his job when questioned about the vote.

Other Democratic representatives were quick to claim the curse visited upon them by Blago’s corruption has been lifted.  I don’t think we can go that far in a state where corruption and politics have gone hand in hand for as long as anyone can remember.  But, they’re probably hoping they can pull the wool over enough eyes to maintain their Democratic domination of state politics when the next elections roll around.

Something tells me the good people of Illinois won’t be so easily fooled and will still be looking for a real “change” when they next get the opportunity to oust the ruling party that has made Illinois the butt of lots of jokes after the Blago corruption came to light.

President-elect Barack Hussein Obama’s old buddy, old pal, old friend Rod “The Senate Seat Salesman” Blagojevich is on track to make history in Illinois, only his story will be a black eye to the state that spawned “Honest Abe” Lincoln.  A committee today voted unanimously to recommend impeachment of the Democratic governor and if the full House agrees, Blago will be the first governor in the history of Illinois to earn that badge of (dis)honor.

Panel recommends impeaching Blagojevich

CHICAGO, Illinois (CNN) — An Illinois legislative committee Thursday unanimously recommended impeaching embattled Gov. Rod Blagojevich amid corruption allegations.

Blagojevich was arrested last month after federal prosecutors alleged, among other things, that he tried to sell the Senate seat President-elect Barack Obama vacated.

The issue will now be taken up by the full Illinois state House of Representatives.

“Today is the day that we begin to give back democracy to the people of the state of Illinois,” Democratic Rep. Jack Franks said as he cast his “aye” vote.

Blagojevich “has been AWOL and derelict of his duties. He has abused his powers, and he has brought shame to this great state,” Franks said.

“I believe that Rod Blagojevich is a liar, and I believe he is a thief,” Franks said. “He has stolen the trust of the people.”
