The Spender-in-Chief’s Fiscal Freeze Follies

by Michelle Malkin at Townhall.com

There are more loopholes in President Obama’s proposed “spending freeze” than in an Olympic volleyball net. Gargantuan government entitlements (Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid) are exempt. A half-trillion in unspent stimulus money is exempt. Foreign aid is exempt. The Democrats’ proposed $154 billion jobs bill (Stimulus II) is exempt.

Pet federal education programs will be exempt (including $4 billion for the White House “Race to the Top” standards initiative and an additional $1.35 billion he just requested in the 2011 budget). Green jobs spending will be exempt. (Obama proposed $10 billion in new clean energy spending earlier this month.) Electorally driven tax-credit expansions will be exempt. The health care takeover plan is not included. As even The New York Times reported, the “estimated $250 billion in savings over 10 years would be less than 3 percent of the roughly $9 trillion in additional deficits the government is expected to accumulate over that time.”

Which amounts to a molecule in a drop of the ocean of red ink in which American taxpayers have been drowning.

The current Spender-in-Chief unveiled details of this lofty new work of political fiction on Monday with more fanfare than a new “Twilight” title. It was supposed to be the centerpiece of the State of the Union address. But by Tuesday morning, Obama’s illusion of fiscal discipline had been shredded left, right and center. By Tuesday afternoon, irritated White House spokesman Robert Gibbs was already downplaying the gimmickry. It’s just something Obama will “mention,” Gibbs bristled.

After campaign videos of Obama repeatedly deriding “hatchet”-wielding spending freezes spread like Kudzu across the Internet, official White House blogger Jared Bernstein tried to control the widespread hypocrisy charges:

“During the campaign, you may recall that John McCain touted option 1 — the hatchet approach of an across-the-board freeze.

“The President was critical of that approach then, …

GOP Leadership in DC Still Doesn’t Get It!

Last November the nation sent a strong and clear message to the Republican Party and Democrats found themselves in complete control of Washington. However, it appears the GOP leadership in our nation’s capitol couldn’t recognize a baseball bat if it hit them between the eyes!  After everything that has transpired since January, Republican leaders still don’t realize conservatism IS what people want.

In May, RINO (Republican in Name Only) Governor Charlie Crist of Florida was endorsed by National Republican Senatorial Committee.  NRSC chairman John Cornyn said Crist is “more electable” than his conservative opponent Marco Rubio.  It’s important to point out this was the first time the NRSC has endorsed a candidate who will be opposed in the Republican primary.

Okay, in May Obama was still sailing in pretty calm seas.  Most considered the April 15 Tea Party a one-time event and expected those protesters to crawl back to their cubicles and let the President get on with the Socialization of the American economy.

But just this week, powerful Republican leaders in DC are trampling a real conservative and endorsing yet another RINO, Dede Scozzafava, in New York’s 23rd Congressional District.  Michelle Malkin has a great piece explaining why she calls Scozzafava “an ACORN-friendly, union-pandering, tax-and-spend radical Republican.”  And even though true conservative Republican Doug Hoffman is vying for the seat, the Democrat who calls herself a Republican has secured endorsements from such Republican heavy hitters as Newt Gingrich, Pete Sessions, and John Boehner.

The GOP has the perfect opportunity to make huge gains in 2010, if it offers candidates who clearly differentiate themselves from their liberal challengers.  But instead, these Republicans are playing right into the hands of the Democrats who have tripled the national debt, dramatically increased federal spending, and are seeking to put the government in control of the most personal and private decisions of every American. How can they not see this?

Immediately following the 2008 defeat, much ink was spent explaining the failures that led to the overwhelming Democratic victory. Many liberals, including those in the mainstream media, were quick to pronounce the death of Conservatism, claiming the results signified a tsunami of Liberalism sweeping across the land. While some Republicans agreed, conservatives did not. According to conservatives, the GOP loss wasn’t a result of Republicans’ conservative policies, but the lack thereof.

Though left-wing pundits and news outlets loved to paint President Bush and other Republicans as “too far to the right” for the past 8 years, the truth is Bush and the party abandoned key aspects of the conservative platform. Spending, debt, and the deficit, along with the size and scope of government escalated in spite of GOP promises to promote fiscal responsibility and limited government. In fact, Obama’s campaign strategy included promises to “return to” fiscally responsible policies and reduce the role of government in our personal lives. (The fact that he has already broken both of these promises is for another article.) So the Left’s hypothesis that Election 2008 was a repudiation of everything conservative won’t wash.

But does evidence exist to support the idea that it was a lack of conservatism on the GOP’s part that cost it the election?

The plethora of conservative grassroots activist organizations that began appearing online immediately following the election gave birth to a movement that has spread across the land, a mobilization of conservative activists previously unseen in these United States. Simultaneous rallies were held across the nation on April 15, July 4, and August 22, attended by Americans young and old protesting not only the hard left turn taken by the Obama administration, but the abandonment of the conservative platform principles mentioned above as well.

Anyone who has attended these rallies can tell you the protesters aren’t calling for a return to the policies of President Bush, but a return to the conservative principles they believe made this country the greatest, most powerful, and most envied on Earth!

If that’s not enough evidence to convince you Americans want a return to conservative principles, take a look at Obama’s crashing poll numbers of late. Rasmussen’s latest Daily Presidential Tracking Poll shows the President’s approval ratings have dropped almost 20 points from their post-inaugural highs and a whopping 40% of Americans strongly disapprove of his job performance, up from 16% when he first took office. Another Rasmussen poll shows Americans prefer a generic Republican candidate to an unnamed Democratic candidate for congress by a 5 point margin. Republicans gained the edge in this poll in June after trailing Democrats for years, only 5 months after Obama began implementing his left wing agenda.

So the question is, why can’t the Republican leadership understand?  Why do they continue to promote, endorse, and patronize RINO’s when it’s plain to see this is exactly what has cost them the past two elections?

Americans don’t need or want Republicans elected.  They need and want Conservatives!

The two should be synonymous, so Scozzafava should step aside and let a real conservative take this seat!

To see the growing list of others calling for Scozzafava to withdraw, see Michelle Malkin’s post!

The Volunteerism Scandals Hollywood Won’t Be Broadcasting

by Michelle Malkin at Townhall.com

Hollywood hearts Obama. Obama hearts government-directed national service. That is why you won’t be able to change the TV channel all week without getting lectured about the need to get off the couch and Do Something. (After your favorite shows are over, of course.) Creeped out? You should be.

The entertainment industry, inspired by Obama’s $6 billion expansion of government volunteerism spending, is coordinating plot lines and ads to push public service. “The message will be nearly ubiquitous,” reports the Los Angeles Times, “starting in the morning with programs such as ‘Today’ and ‘The View,’ and then echoed on soap operas, prime-time series and late-night shows.” First lady Michelle Obama, a relentless AmeriCorps promoter who publicly extolled the Tinseltown initiative last month, will cap off the week with an appearance on “The Jay Leno Show” on Friday.

But don’t expect Leno to ask Mrs. Obama about her reported meddling in personnel decisions at the scandal-plagued AmeriCorps. Or about the program’s long history as a government boondoggle stuffed with make-work jobs, permanent bureaucracies, left-wing slush funds and partisan lobbyists. More on that in a moment.

Spearheaded by a nonprofit called the Entertainment Industry Foundation (EIF), organizers deny any partisan or political motivation. But editor John Nolte published an internal memo from EIF titled “Answering the Call,” which describes the entire multiyear campaign as a direct response to President Obama’s call “for a new era of responsibility.” The massive leftward tilt in Hollywood donations to Democratic campaign coffers speaks for itself. As do the celebrity vows of volunteer-mongers like Demi Moore, who pledged in a recent national service PSA not to be a servant to her fellow citizens or her country, but “a servant to Barack Obama.”

Dodd and Obama: Corrupt Birds of a Feather

by Michelle Malkin at Townhall.com

Everything you need to know about false Hope and Change can be found in one picture: the image of President Obama embracing embattled Sen. Chris Dodd.

The troubled Democrat is in deep over his sweetheart Countrywide home-loan deals, corporate bailout cash and crony associations. New revelations by Countrywide whistleblower Robert Feinberg confirm what more and more of Dodd’s constituents in Connecticut are coming to realize: He’s a lying weasel.

Dodd denied knowledge of the special treatment the subprime mortgage company had given him and Senate Budget Committee Chairman Kent Conrad on home loans. (Dodd’s were worth more than $800,000.) Feinberg flatly contradicted him in secret testimony on the Hill this week.

“Cold Cash” Jefferson jury selection underway

Yet more evidence that political corruption pervades the party that planned to “drain the swamp,” as the dishonest Democratic House Speaker Nancy Pelosi put it.

Here’s a taste of Michelle Malkin’s latest column laying out the case.

Cold cash, hot Democrat mess

Remember William “Cold Cash” Jefferson? House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and the Clean-Up Crew hope you’ve forgotten. Jefferson is the former Louisiana congressman caught with gobs of money in his freezer nearly four years ago in an FBI sting. He finally went on trial this week on a multitude of federal bribery and racketeering charges.

Refresher: FBI agents confronted Jefferson with video showing him accepting $100,000 in marked bills from a government informant. Prosecutors say he took the money to bribe a Nigerian official in a business deal. “We got to motivate him real good,” Jefferson told the informant, according to a Justice Department transcript. “He’s got a lot of people to pay off.”

Who are the fear mongers?

Digg!
#TCOT #diggcons

0000018f1The dems are screeching from every platform in America about the inevitable destruction of life as we know it if we don’t all lay down and let them steamroll us with what Michelle Malkin has suitably titled The Generational Theft Act of 2009.  Obama’s was out the other day guaranteeing us trillion dollar deficits for the foreseeable future, but telling us we should be afraid of what would happen without them.  Without digging the deficit hole so deep our great-great grandchildren may not refill it in their lifetimes, things could get really bad according to the President-elect–even dire.

Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi (D-CA) tells Americans to trust the politicians who passed the laws, catered the corruption, and ignored the warnings that led to our economy’s current unstable foundation–they can fix it.  Reminds me of the movie “Fast Times at Ridgemont Hight” when Shawn Penn wrecked the football star’s car and said “I can fix it.”  She says we shouldn’t fear mortgaging our grandchildren’s future, but be very afraid of not being able to buy a new big screen TV this year.

If you’ve read my other posts regarding the bailout/stimulus/Socialist spending plans the last few weeks, you already know where I stand.  Ronald Reagan said it best when he said, “Government takes from the needy and gives to the greedy.”  Fred Thompson does a great job explaining why this plan-to-save-us-from-certain-death is fundamentally flawed here.  And you can see another great explanation of the fallacy of Keynesian economics from Dan Mitchell of the Cato Institute in this video.

What, you still don’t believe those folks know what they’re talking about?  Well, how about two UCLA professors who studied the Great Depression and concluded that Roosevelt’s policies didn’t save us from the Depression, they made it worse!  Again, thanks to Michelle Malkin for bringing this study to light.  These two professors, from UCLA (not a right-wing think tank by any means) mind you, set out to find why the Great Depression lasted soooooo loooonng and discovered FDR’s attempts to stimulate the economy actually stifled it!

Their conclusion:

“Ironically, our work shows that the recovery would have been very rapid had the government not intervened.”

Yet, here we go again. Using the same flawed logic and theory that FDR used to make a bad depression worse, Democrats are trying to strike fear of the alternatives into the hearts of Americans.

We need to work hard to make sure these idiots only control all three branches of government for 2 years or the human race may be extinct before we can recover from their stimulus.

Hypocrisy in the Obamedia

Obamedia*–the highly liberally biased Mainstream Media (MSM) whose fascination with (adoration of?) President-elect Barack Hussein Obama suffocates all traces of objectivity in reporting the accomplishments, struggles, whereabouts, activities, vices, etc. of the President-elect. This group of supposedly detached professionals is also easily identified by its hatred and vitriolic rhetoric regarding any conservative person or ideal, especially President Bush.

*I first saw this term in Michelle Malkin’s column discussing/disclosing the obvious bias in the reporting of the workout habits of President Bush vs. President-elect Barack Hussein Obama.  The above definition is my own and Ms. Malkin may define it differently.

Here are a couple of teaser excerpts for her exceptional column:

And when Obama feels better, the skies will part, the sun will shine (in moderate, environmentally-correct, non-global warming-inducing amounts, of course) and peace will reign worldwide!

and

Fit Republican president = Selfish, indulgent, creepy fascist.

Fit Democratic president = Disciplined, health-conscious Adonis role model.

Now, you might be wondering about my obvious bias in the other direction.

Please note the subtitle of this site. My intention is to mislead no one while serving as a counterbalance to the constant barrage of left-wing propaganda disbursed by the MSM on a daily basis.

In that spirit, I can’t help but notice how left-wing reporters enamored with Obama can write starry-eyed essays describing his workout habits and the benefits Americans will receive from their in-tip-top-shape new President, but evidently forget the nasty little unhealthy habit that receives virtually no attention from the MSM–smoking.

You remember smoking. The killer of men, women, children, dogs, cats, hamsters, flowers, bees, trees, pigs, goats, chickens, and any other harmless, innocent creature that engenders sympathy in a majority of voters in America.

Didn’t President Clinton attack and encourage attacks by others on the evil tobacco companies in an effort to rid the world of all evil? Didn’t our government increase taxes that more than doubled the price of cigarettes because they caused all the problems in America? Hasn’t smoking been banned in public buildings, many public places, even U.S. Navy ships because it’s so detrimental to the health of the American people?

For all the evils credited to smoking by the Democrats, our President-elect’s habit of lighting up doesn’t even deserve a mention in an article describing his healthy lifestyle.

If you ever had any doubt about the objectivity of the MSM, or if you ever thought it leaned conservative, this should definitely convince you otherwise.

Conservatives Springing to Life

Though many would have you believe the Republican Party is shuffling along to the sound of a funeral march after the blow dealt in last month’s elections, the GOP may actually rebound quicker than anyone anticipates.

My father always told me you never lose a fight until you quit getting up after being knocked down.  Though many of the party leaders are still shaking their heads in disbelief, pointing fingers, and wondering just what in the Hell happened, small groups of passionate conservatives are springing into action in an effort to rejuvenate the party through a return to its conservative roots.

Organizations like Rebuild the Party (RTP) and Top Conservatives on Twitter (TCOT) are using social networking sites on the web to join forces, discuss strategy, and organize grassroots efforts.  Still in their infancy, these groups have quickly grown their numbers into the 1000’s.

They’re not just trying to recruit new GOP voters though, they’re also working to have a say in the direction of the RNC.  Blogs and websites are springing up daily to carry the message that can counteract the liberal mainstream media’s domination of the supply chain for news and information.

Already, well-known politicians and activists like Mike Huckabee and Michelle Malkin have joined TCOT, and several of the candidates for RNC chairman have endorsed the RTP plan!

If you’re longing for a truly conservative Republican Party again, join us today and help make it happen!
