Without question, people who zealously guard their freedoms, love their country, and want a better future for their children lost a big battle on Sunday. Yes, Republicans in the House fought skillfully and won the battle with the public, but the legislative chicanery, bribery, and utter disdain for the will of the people won the day for the Left.

Democrats in extremely red districts proved ready and willing to sacrifice their jobs in November to pass the bill. The Stupak block, which held firm for weeks, joined hands with the pro-abortion crowd to federally fund abortions for the first time in our history. The Democrats in Congress didn’t care about the rules, they didn’t care about the consent of the governed, and they didn’t care about what is good for the country. This is a socialist power grab, pure and simple, and a little bit of what has made this a great country died writhing on the floor of the House last night.

The Democrats are calling this a historic moment. So it is. Of course, the same could be said of the crash of the Hindenburg, the sinking of the Titanic, and the start of the Civil War…

White House to push ACORN pet project

Critics warn plan will ‘sneak socialism’ into U.S., cause major economic loss

The White House is considering a new policy that would give an advantage in bids for billions in government contracts to companies that pay workers “living wages” and offer generous benefits.

WND has learned the “living wage” campaign has long been pushed by the radical Association of Community Organizations for Reform Now, or ACORN, and was largely initiated on a local level in the 1990s with the help of a socialist party of which evidence suggests Barack Obama was a member.

Critics warn a living wage advantage for more than $500 billion in government contracts could harm small companies, with case studies showing cities that enacted similar policies in the 1990s faced major financial losses. Business groups who oppose the plan say also it would increase government procurement costs.

The Associated Press obtained documents outlining the White House plan. The documents reportedly show the government would examine the wages and benefits – such as health insurance, retirement benefits and paid leave – a firm pays its employees as a factor in the process of awarding government contracts. Another factor would be whether a contract bidder is a repeat violator of labor and employment laws.

A Labor Department compliance office would compile a score on contract bidders based on the criteria and then determine which companies would get government contracts.

Writing about a similar policy that was being considered in Chicago in 2003, Steven Malanga of the City Journal stated the movement “sneaks socialism into cities.”

Saving for Retirement? Hand it over!

Uncle Sam wants your retirement money.

The Obama administration has just solicited public comment on their proposal to take money from Americans’ private 401(k) retirement accounts and convert it into government-backed annuities. In other words, they want to take your money now to purchase U.S. Treasury bonds, then pay you a monthly sum later after you’ve retired.

Although this proposal is being initially portrayed as a voluntary choice, Americans already have the ability to purchase Treasury bonds with their retirement money. Moreover, the Obama administration is considering making these annuities the default option. And as analyst Karl Denninger noted, “‘choices’ have a funny way of turning into mandates.” Nor is his concern unjustified.

In 2008, Professor Teresa Ghilarducci of the New School of Social Research testified before Congress proposing a similar scheme to convert private 401(k) accounts into government-run “guaranteed retirement accounts” that would pay a 3% return. And in 2008, the Argentinian government attempted to nationalize private retirement funds to help cover its runaway deficit.

As the U.S. Social Security system moves ever closer to bankruptcy, the billions of dollars Americans have saved in their private retirement accounts will become an increasingly tempting target for our politicians.

A government raid on private retirement funds wouldn’t necessarily take the form of outright confiscation. It could take the form of mandatory conversion into government accounts, where the government would determine how much money retirees could receive. Or it could take the form of, for example, a 40% surtax on disbursements from 401(k) balances over $1 million — on the grounds that it would only harm wealthy “millionaires.”

But regardless of the precise method employed, the basic principle would be the same: Your money would no longer be your money. Instead, the government would claim the right to redistribute your wealth to pay for others’ retirement on the grounds that they needed it more. In essence, the government would be implementing the Marxist principle: “From each according to his ability, to each according to his need.”

Democrats to Americans–“We don’t give a damn what you want!”

After a year of ignoring the growing grassroots protest movement that sprung up last year, after crashing in polls across the nation for months, and after stinging election losses in New Jersey, Virginia, and Massachusetts, Democrats undoubtedly understand the message being communicated by a disillusioned but indefatigable electorate. But it has never been more clear they don’t care what We the People want, they have no intention of bending to our will.

“This isn’t the change America wanted!” is the clear message that only those who never watch or read the news don’t understand. The Tea Party, the 9-12 movement, and the overall resurgence of conservatism in the country today would not have metasticized except in opposition to President Barack Obama and the Democrats’ rush to burden the American people with the yoke of Socialism.

But after all the protests, calls and emails to representatives and senators, and even their precipitous drop in polls from coast to coast, Democrats in Washington continue to forge ahead on the path to Obamacare–the plank in Obama’s platform most detested by the American people. The message is clear, and it isn’t going unheard.

The message is being ignored!

Two hundred and thirty four years ago, our forefathers were slaves to their government. They responded with revolution.

The Declaration of Independence enumerates the reasons they chose to abandon their ruler and form their own country, now our own country. Within the preamble to that famous document we find part of the foundation of their decision to revolt is once again suffered by We the People.

…Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or abolish it, and to institute new Government, laying its foundation on such principles, and organizing its powers in such form, as to them shall seem most likely to effect their Safety and Happiness. *Emphasis added

That a strong majority of the people are opposed to a government takeover of our health care system is undeniable. Obama and his Democrat henchmen in the US House and Senate have tried to put lipstick on their pig several times, but a large majority of Americans still recognize it as a pig and continue to oppose Obamacare.

Everyone thought Democrats had finally learned their lesson last month after they lost the un-losable US Senate seat Ted Kennedy had so long occupied. Obama himself even uttered the words on camera. “The Senate certainly shouldn’t try to jam anything through until Scott Brown is seated. People in Massachusetts spoke. He’s got to be part of that process,” said the President following the historic GOP victory in Massachusetts.

Most considered the House and Senate bills dead at that point. But Obama didn’t mean the Senate shouldn’t try to jam anything through, he meant to wait until Scott Brown was seated AND THEN jam something through!

Now it appears they’re ready to do just that. Harry Reid (D-NV) said yesterday the Senate will force a bill through within 60 days, in spite of overwhelming opposition by the American people.

Through a process known as reconciliation, designed to be used only for budget bills, the Senate needs only 51 votes and steer clear of a filibuster. Republicans are crying foul because the 2000 + page bill isn’t a budget bill and doesn’t qualify for that process. In a letter to Obama this month, House Majority Leader John Boehner (R-OH) and Minority Whip Eric Cantor (R-VA)told the President “`Bipartisanship’ is not writing proposals of your own behind closed doors, then unveiling them and demanding Republican support.”

The President’s calls for, and promises of bipartisanship were nothing but a sham. Designed to bolster his crashing approval ratings and possibly stem the flow of Democrats’ political bleeding across the country, he met with Republicans last month and called for a Health Care Summit with Republicans that will take place on Thursday. But even some Democrats admit it’s all for show.

Buried way down deep in a New York Times article—“There’s hope for a breakthrough here, but the odds of that are not very good,” said a top Democratic aide who has worked for years on health care. “This is a media event.” In the same article, some Democrats expressed doubt the Senate can get even 51 votes to pass the bill in reconciliation. But they also expressed the opinion that Obama may be able to sway enough to cross the hurdle.

Democrats have no intention of compromising, and their leaders in Congress and the White House have no intention of “deriving their powers by the consent of the governed.” Instead they exercise their power in spite of the will of the governed.

If they pass this bill, after all that has transpired these last few months, they will be saying to the American people “We don’t give a damn what you want!”

That’s right, the land of Martha’s Vineyard, Ted Kennedy, and Barney Frank may hold the key to stopping the runaway train to Socialism that we’ve been trying to derail for months!

Congratulations American Taxpayer

You’re now the proud owner of yet another failed corporation!

The week between Christmas and New Year’s Day is usually a week when Americans slow down and take some time off.  Kids are out of school, many companies are shut down or slowed down, and quite a few families are on vacation.  Congress is even on vacation, minimizing the damage they typically inflict on the wallet of the American taxpayer.

This year the Obama administration took advantage of the holiday distractions to seize control of GMAC, the financing arm of General Government Motors Corp.  This third bailout of the company that writes loans for Government Motors and Chrysler Corp. vehicles resulted in the US government increasing its ownership share of the company to 56.3%.  This, of course, once more gives the Obama administration controlling interest in what had been a privately owned company.

When the Bush administration signed off on the first $6 billion GMAC received from the US taxpayer, officials in the former President’s Treasury Department considered it “part of a broader program to assist the domestic automotive industry in becoming financially viable.”  But in May 2009, the Obama administration handed over another $7 billion in taxpayer wages to the beleaguered finance arm of what was soon to become the first US government owned auto maker.

The second bailout netted the Obama Treasury Department a 35.8% stake in the corporation, and an agreement GMAC would take on the additional liability of financing customers of Chrysler Corp.  This followed almost immediately after the President took an 8% stake in Chrysler for the US taxpayer and handed over a 55% controlling interest to the unions.

Much of the initial money will go to help GMAC shoulder new lending responsibilities for Chrysler dealers and consumers after Chrysler’s government-orchestrated Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing last month. As part of the Chrysler reorganization, the government in effect dissolved Chrysler Financial and handed its business to GMAC, creating one big auto-financing arm that would service both companies.–WSJ, May 21, 2009

President Obama had already invested billions in Chrysler and plans to secure US government ownership of General Motors were in the works. Bailing out GMAC became an easy way to launder even more bailout cash to the President’s experiment with union and government ownership of former US industrial icons.  As with other stones forming the foundation of Obama’s economic policies, funneling money to the automakers through loans to their customers didn’t prove too solid.

But that’s not something the President is willing to admit yet–that his policies for stimulating the economy have failed.  No, his newest plan is to throw good money after bad and pile another $3.8 billion of YOUR money onto the still smoldering pile of waste known as GMAC.

The first $6 billion wasn’t enough to rescue the financial firm and its now-nationalized benefactors of its bad loans.  The next $7 billion couldn’t save it, but did put Obama in control of 35.8% of the company.  The second bailout also allowed the President to twist the arm of the company and force it to agree to loan more money to customers of GM, which Obama would soon nationalize, and Chrysler, which the President had recently handed over to his union backers.

Though neither of these bailouts accomplished their (supposed) goal, our omnipotent, omniscient oracle Obama, in his infinite wisdom, has determined the solution to the problem is to pour more of your hard-earned tax dollars into the bankrupt corporation,  $3.8 billion more.  But don’t worry!  The President who brought us $1.4 trillion deficits and a $12 trillion national debt has traded our greenbacks for a controlling interest in the company.

That’s right.  We now own 56.3% of a company that can’t attract private capital because it can’t manage to stem the flow of red ink from its books.  A company that cannot, on its own merits, attract private capital.  President Obama is forcing all American taxpayers to borrow money to purchase a portfolio of profitless companies controlled by politicians and bureaucrats.

So congratulations taxpayers!  Like it or not, you own yet another failed corporation run by Chairman Obama.
