All Arkansas Dems Vote For Obamacare!

From the Lonoke County Republican Committee

Oh not directly. But yesterday their “Yea” votes on House Resolution 1190 are, without a doubt, votes for Obamacare. And votes against the will of their constituents in Arkansas!

HR 1190 was a Republican attempt to block Democrats’ “Slaughter Solution” (aka “Deem & Pass”) that is being considered by Democrats as an end run around the Constitution’s Article I, Section 5 requirement for an up or down vote on the Senate’s version of Obamacare. Our Democrat Congressmen are so rash, narcissistic, and condescending they believe this unconstitutional tactic to avoid a direct vote on the bill will fool their constituents in Arkansas.

Pelosi and her Democrat allies (all the other 221 Democrats who voted for this resolution) think their constituents are stupid enough to believe yesterday’s vote isn’t a vote for Obamacare. But voting to avoid a direct vote and consider a bill passed without voting on it can’t be considered anything but a “Yea” vote for the bill being avoided. (If that sentence seems a little confusing, it’s because we want you to get the idea just how this Democrat play is designed to confound and confuse voters.)

In the last two days calls to Marion Berry’s (AR-01)office yielded assurances that he will read the entire bill before voting on it, and no final bill was even out yet. Mike Ross (AR-04) outright lied when he declared his opposition to Obamacare. And Vic Snyder (AR-02) never made any bones about his disdain for his constituents’ will. Now this.

Even President Obama admitted yesterday’s vote IS a vote for the unpopular Obamacare in his contentious interview with Brett Baier on Wednesday. When asked by Baier if he supported the use of the “Slaughter Rule” he responded,

“What I can tell you is that the vote that’s taken in the House will be a vote for health care reform. And if people vote yes, whatever form that takes, that is going to be a vote for health care reform. And I don’t think we should pretend otherwise.”

*emphasis added

This kind of Democrat shenanigan is exactly the reason we must send a conservative Republican to Congress from the 1st District in November. Doing so will guarantee a vote against Nancy Pelosi for Speaker of the House and put an end to this chicanery.

Rick Crawford
, one of two GOP candidates for Berry’s seat spoke out against this unconstitutional tactic in his blog post, “Crawford Speaks Out Against ‘Deem and Pass’.”

On a day where a Fox News poll shows only 35% of Americans favor the health care reform bill, Pelosi is attempting to use a tactic dubbed “deem and pass” to push through the Senate’s health care reform bill, without having members of Congress actually vote on the bill. FoxNews.com reports this plan is being considered because, “…many House Democrats don’t want to cast a vote in favor of the unaltered Senate bill, which they oppose for numerous reasons.”

Republican central Arkansas businessman Scott Wallace, running for Vic Snyder’s 2nd District seat says it’s time to “unequivocally say NO to government run health care” and put this issue to rest for good. Wallace’s primary opponent Tim Griffin, a US Army reservist and former US attorney, called the vote against this “common sense resolution” a vote for Nancy Pelosi, and against the people of Arkansas. From Griffin’s press release:

“It is clear Arkansans must elect a new conservative majority to Congress in 2010. More importantly, we need to elect conservative leaders who will represent our values, not Speaker Pelosi’s, and work for the people of Arkansas, not against them.

Garland County Tea Party President and GOP candidate for Mike Ross’ seat in the 4th District, Glenn Gallas slammed all three Arkansas Democrat congressmen in his press release. Gallas says,

” [Ross] allowed the bill to go forward to the detriment of his constituents to please Nancy Pelosi and Harry Reid. When the Republicans moved to stop the “Slaughter Rule”, Mike Ross, Vic Snyder, and Marion Berry, voted along their party line as they often do, shooting down the chance of stopping the Slaughter rule, thereby permitting the Obama Health Care bill to move forward…”

These Arkansas turncoats can’t hide behind the dishonest Democrats’ devious tactics.

They voted for the bill, they voted for Obamacare, and they voted against the will of their constituents in Arkansas!

Help us remove Nancy Pelosi’s gavel as Speaker of the House by electing conservative Republicans this fall!

Will Vic Snyder Support Nancy Pelosi’s Government-Run Healthcare?

Will Vic Snyder Support Nancy Pelosi’s Government-Run Healthcare [i.e, Obamacare]? He voted for Nancy Pelosi’s TRILLION DOLLAR Simulus, her wasteful budget, even her wasteful National Energy Tax. Time to call Vic Snyder and ask him if he will now support Nancy Pelois’s Government-Run Healthcare?

Boozman to Obama: Stop it NOW!

Hat tip: ARRA News Service

Representative John Boozman, Arkansas’ only Republican lawmaker released the following statement yesterday.

Boozman Statement on White House Internet Monitoring

Washington, Aug 7

U.S. Representative John Boozman (R-AR) today issued the following statement regarding White House Internet Monitoring efforts:

“The Obama Administration has requested that e-mails and internet materials produced by private citizens that are critical of the President’s policies be reported to an e-mail address at the White House.

The White House website states:  “If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.”

American citizens should be free to criticize the policies of the President or any other elected official, including me, without fearing that the criticism will be policed and monitored by the government.

The First Amendment specifically protects speech, and our Constitutional rights must be protected when we use the internet.

I call on President Obama to disable this e-mail address and I ask that he stop soliciting this kind of surveillance on private citizens.”

No such press release was issued by Arkansas’ three Democratic Representatives or two Democratic Senators. I guess Marion Berry, Vic Snyder, Mike Ross, Blanche Lincoln, and Mark Pryor have no problem with our President soliciting American citizens to spy on their neighbors and inform government officials of any dissent to official White House policy.

You can help Rep. Boozman get his message across to Obama and The White House by clicking this link and email it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

Snyder, Ross Little Rock Town Hall

Ark. crowd mocks lawmakers over Obama health plan

That’s the AP headline on Yahoo and here are some YouTube videos posted from the Town Hall meeting held at Arkansas Children’s Hospital today.

Attendees become upset when the Congressmen try to convince the crowd the President doesn’t want a single-payer system.

“You guys are undermining American exceptionalism…You need to get the government the Hell out of it…” says another member of the crowd.

“We need tort reform.” says a young lady and the crowd goes wild.

Ross has a problem with insurance company employees making more than the Secretary of Health and Human Services.

“Why do we need another government solution for what Medicare, Medicaid, COBRA, SCHIP, etc. was supposed to do?” asks a participant.

The crowd wasn’t all opposed to Obamacare.  One young man proudly proclaimed his support for Obama and told Ross and Snyder he’d be glad to have them supervise his health care system.  But for a rescheduled, short notice, middle of the workday town hall meeting, I’d say our message got through.

Arkansas GOP launches Health Care Action Center

Finally!  It looks like the Arkansas Republican Party has decided to use its new website for more than a fancy newsletter.  Yesterday the state party announced its Health Care Action Center which places weapons in the hands of voters to war against Democratic attempts to impose a government run health care system on the American people.

You’ll find phone numbers to every Congressmen’s and both Senators’ offices along with pdf files containing suggested scripts for phone calls.  Another pdf file on that page lists “Health Care Talking Points” to combat the non-stop rhetoric spewed from the White House and their Democratic allies.

Another page linked to the Action Center is a file containing 5 sample letters to the editor.  You can take one of these word for word, use it as a starting point to write your own, write some combination of the 5, or start from scratch, but please take the time to communicate your desire to stop the government takeover of our health care system to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette in a letter to the editor today.

You can also find email links to every member of Arkansas’ congressional delegation in the Action Center.  We need to overload their email systems and make them understand we don’t want a government run health care system.  The party has included a link to suggested text to include in your emails, tailored to each Representative and Senator.  (I just spoke with Congressman Ross’ office in Pine Bluff and was told there is no truth to the internet rumors that Ross has sold out to the Obama administration.)

The President and his Socialist allies are pushing this power grab hard.  Obama was rumored to have told one Democratic Senator who opposes Obamacare, “You’re going to ruin my presidency.”  Look for full-scale Chicago style politics on Pennsylvania Avenue over the next few weeks.  To combat the sure to come mob style strongarm tactics they’ll employ, we need everyone to do their part.  Make Arkansas Democrats afraid to sell out to Socialism by letting them know they’ll be out of a job in 2010 if they do!

Rally for Troops–Arkansas Pols Invited

President Obama’s silence on the senseless murder of 23-year-old Pvt William Long and shooting of Pvt Quinton Ezeagwula outside a Little Rock recruiting center has been well documented. ARRA News Service, Michelle Malkin, and The Conservative Pup have all written great articles wondering why Obama would immediately express his outrage at the murder of an abortion doctor one day, but completely ignore the murder of a young soldier just out of boot camp by an American citizen who recently converted to radical Islam.  Well, he finally acknowledged the slaying of this young soldier today.  He’s “deeply saddened by this senseless act of violence.”  That’s it, deeply saddened.  The killing of Dr. Tiller, who was well-known for performing late-term abortions, made him “shocked and outraged.”  But the murder of a young soldier simply saddens him.

Not that I condone the killing of Dr. Tiller, because I certainly don’t.  But how is it that the Commander-in-Chief of the armed forces assigns such greater weight to his murder than that of a young man who signed over a portion his life to the service of these United States?  The only plausible explanation is that the President holds the prior in much higher regard than the latter.

Yesterday we learned the organization, Secure Arkansas, was putting together a rally to show support for our troops at the scene of the heinous crime against the two soldiers.  I spent this morning calling Senators Blanche Lincoln and Mark Pryor and 2nd District Congressman Vic Snyder’s offices to inquire as to whether they wished to issue a public statement on the terrorist attack and if they planned on having someone from their offices attend the rally.

Stunningly, none of these elected officials knew anything of the upcoming rally.  Even more stunning were the responses I received from Senator Pryor’s and Representative Snyder’s offices.  Pryor’s spokesman told me the Senator was still examining the information and would issue a statement once all the facts were known.  I was unable to reach Kelly Neal, to whom I was directed to find out if anyone from the Senator’s office would be attending the rally.  Snyder’s press secretary, Betsy Barrett said the Congressman had not yet issued a statement on the matter, but asked for more information on the rally.  I emailed her the requested information, but received no further response from his office.

Senator Lincoln’s press secretary, Katie Niebaum, seemed much more concerned and far more helpful.  She assured me the Senator had the soldiers’ and their families in her thoughts and prayers and was praying for a speedy recovery for Pvt. Ezeagwula.  When I pressed further and asked if Senator Lincoln considered this a hate crime as defined in HR 1913, which was passed by the House and now is before the Senate Judiciary Committee, she promised to get back with me.  I also asked her to find out if the Senator thought an amendment should be added to name veterans as a protected class under the bill, such as that Congressman Rooney attempted while the bill was still in committee in the House.  Ms. Niebaum promptly responded with the following:

Hi John,

Thank you for your call this morning. Senator Lincoln takes seriously our country’s commitment to ensuring the physical safety of all Americans, and she has voted for the hate crimes bill (which has taken various forms) in past Congresses. The bill introduced this Congress is currently pending before the Senate Judiciary Committee, of which Senator Lincoln is not a member. Senator Lincoln will thoughtfully consider all amendments to the bill if and when that debate moves to the Senate floor.

Senator Lincoln is grateful for all of our military service members and the sacrifices they and their families make to keep our nation free. Earlier today, she discussed the senseless tragedy in Little Rock with Arkansas news reporters, and said that her prayers were with the family and loved ones of Private Long and that she prayed for a full and speedy recovery for Private Ezeagwula.

Senator Lincoln has consistently supported initiatives that expand the benefits for our military service members and veterans and their families, and I encourage you to check out her website for her work as recent as last month:

In addition, the Enlisted Association of the National Guard of the United States honored Senator Lincoln with the Sonny Montgomery Eagle Award last year for her “exceptional dedication and efforts to improve the status, welfare, and professionalism” of enlisted members of the National Guard.

http://lincoln.senate.gov/newsroom/2008-03-06-2.cfm

Thank you, John.

Katie

I would like to thank Ms. Niebaum for taking the time to respond to my concerns.  Though I didn’t get a yes or no on the issue of treating veterans as a protected class in the hate crimes legislation, at least she promised Lincoln’s thoughtful consideration if we can get such an amendment introduced.  I was also encouraged by Lincoln’s willingness to speak with reporters about the attack.  I was unable to reach the Senator’s assistant in Little Rock to ask if she would send someone to represent her office at the rally.

I’ll be attending the rally and will report on it in a subsequent post.

NRCC declares Arkansas a 2010 battleground

Many seem to think the GOP and conservatism are dead in the water after their dismal showing in last year’s elections, but Arkansas Democrats better prepare for a fight in 2010. Today, The Tolbert Report released the latest in a series of ads by the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) letting voters in the conservative Southern state know their Democratic representatives in Congress aren’t really representative of their constituency.

The ad takes on Rep. Vic Snyder from Arkansas’ 2nd Congressional District for his vote to send $800,000 to what is practically a private airport for Rep. John Murtha (D-PA). The airport serves a mere 20 passengers a day, with flights serving only one airport–Dulles in Washington, DC. It seems difficult to imagine Arkansas voters would voluntarily offer so much of their hard-earned money to serve the radical Murtha, but Vic Snyder thought this a wise investment for his constituents.

That’s not all the NRCC points out. Most would agree that Rep. Nancy Pelosi (D-AR) would never stand a chance of being elected if she were running in Arkansas. Though the embattled Pelosi has a 39% approval rating according to the latest CNN/Opinion Research poll, the ad notes Snyder votes with the forgetful lying congresswoman 97% of the time.

It’s hard to believe a majority of Arkansans would have knowingly elected Snyder had they known he was determined to be a Pelosi puppet.

Some may not consider it surprising the NRCC is challenging Arkansas Democrats, but the state didn’t really seem to matter to the GOP in 2008. Not one of the three Democratic representatives and one Senator who were up for re-election last year ran against a Republican challenger, not one. This was a terrible oversight on the GOP’s part, because every one of those four Democrats were challenged by third party candidates who all made decent showings in their respective races. Snyder’s Green Party challenger took more than 23% of the vote. There’s little doubt a Republican challenger would have had a far greater showing, and might have even defeated Congressman Snyder.

The NRCC seems destined not to repeat the mistake of 2008. It previously released an ad against Arkansas’ 1st District Congressman, Marion Berry, challenging his “Blue Dog” status by pointing out his recent votes on the Obama-Pelosi “Stimulus” plan and budget.

Arkansas may not have been on the GOP’s radar in recent years, but it is now. The Dems better be ready for a fight in 2010.
