Union thugs wearing SEIU t-shirts beat black conservative activist at St. Louis town hall meeting

From #TCOT Report

Eyewitness account of union thugs beating black conservative activist

August 6, 2009
St. Louis, Missouri

I am a friend of Kenneth Gladney, who was attacked this evening at the Russ Carnahan town hall meeting. I was at the town hall meeting as well. I witnessed the entire melee. Kenneth was approached by a SEIU representative as Kenneth was handing out “Don’t Tread on Me” flags to other conservatives. The SEIU representative demanded to know why a black man was handing out the “Don’t Tread on Me” flags. The SEIU member then used a racial slur against Kenneth, then punched him in the face. Kenneth fell to the ground. Another yelled racial epithets at Kenneth as he kicked him. Kenneth was also brutally attacked by two other men who are SEIU members and an unidentified woman. The three men were clearly SEIU members, as they were wearing t-shirts with the SEIU logo.

They punched Kenneth in the face and kicked him in the back and his head numerous times. Mr. Gladney was beaten badly. One assailant fled on foot. Three others were arrested. Kenneth is currently at St. John’s Mercy Hospital being treated for his many injuries. Mr. Gladney was merely expressing his freedom of speech by handing out flags. He in no way provoked anything, as evidenced by the fact that three people were arrested. We hope that Ken recovers from these injuries, however he is in great pain at this time. I am Mr. Gladney’s friend and attorney. We will be pursuing legal action at our disposal. This was a truly senseless hate crime carried out by racist union thugs.

Mr. Gladney is a tea party supporter and conservative activist, although he subscribes to no particular political party. We are calling on the SEIU, Representative Carnhan, and President Obama to condemn the racist actions of these thugs. In the days to come, we will be investigating who these thugs actually work for and how strong their alliances to other various left-wing organizations may be.

We hope the St. Louis Tea Party and Tea Party organizations around the country will protest the SEIU offices in every major city across America to expose the These strongarm actions must stop.

Regards,
David B. Brown

Remember, these thugs represent the organization that virtually resides in the White House and advise President Obama on nearly every form of policy. Free speech under attack, freedom of assembly met with brutal attacks by left-wing thugs, the President calling on his left-wing allies to turn in those with whom he disagrees. Is this the change America voted for?

  1. I sent a message to the Whitehouse Snitch line reporting:

    Dear Whitehouse,

Here is something fishy for you to take some appropriate action on…a black conservative patriot getting beaten up by union thugs…see for yourself

Union Thugs Beat Black Conservative at MO Town Hall

Are these examples of Card Checkers and is this why you want Card Check Legislation so ordinary citizens can be bullied out of peacefully standing for what they believe in and having their freedoms taken away from them?

I will not be holding my breath for
    1. A answer to my questions, and
    2. The President to make an appropriate remark on national television in favor of freedom of choice and peaceable assembly still guaranteed us by the US Constitution.

I am against the Government Healthcare Plan, too.

    • Thank you Betty! It is fishy indeed.

Unfortunately, I doubt the MSM will tell this story to the American people. And I’m sure his “Disinformation Czar” will try and spin this.

Thanks for helping to let the President know we know what’s up.

  3. Now the DNC is deploying AFL-CIO palookas while hypocritically dismissing Obamacare opponents as paid shills -even running disengenuous TV ads to slander them- meanwhile SanFranNan is halucinating and seeing imaginary Swastikas.

This should make clear to anyone just what these far-left elitists think of your opinion.

Note that whenever Obama, Emanuel, or Gibbs are asked about why polls show SO many people oppose their misguided Cap-n-Trade and Obamacare proposals, they ALWAYS segue-right-into “we need to educate the public…”.

LOL- save your breath… Constitutionally-aware patriots don’t take lectures from Marxists.

You liberal nut jobs burn car dealerships, wreck medical laboratories, and riot in the streets, destroying cars, businesses, and anything else in your paths. Then when conservatives dare question their elected officials, without any act of violence, you hypocritical fools label us a “mob.”

Keep talking fool. No one, except you left-wing radical nut jobs, is buying it anymore.

      • In fact, John, there have been numerous incidents of violence by Conservative fanatics trying to hi-jack the democratic process and First Amendment rights at Town Hall meetings. Here is at least one reported by the Sierra Newd Daily out of Arizona:

‘Town hall disruptions around the country have led to some outbreaks of violence. Unions participating in town halls have received death threats. At an event held by Rep. Gabrielle Giffords (D-Ariz.) last week, the threat of violence led her aides to call the police after one attendee dropped a gun.

“Yelling and screaming is counterproductive,” she told the Sierra Vista Herald at a Congress on Your Corner event last week. There, one visitor dropped a gun at the meet n’ greet held in a Douglas Safeway, her staff says.

That has aides, who called police to the event, concerned for her safety.

“We have never felt the need before to notify law enforcement when we hold these events,” said spokesman C.J. Karamargin.’

  8. For the record, I am a Republican; and further for the record, I am a national organizer with “REPUBLICANS FOR OBAMA.” A wingnut fearmonger recently accused me of being a General Colin Powell Republican; then asked me “WHAT HAS PRESIDENT OBAMA DONE IN SIX MONTHS IN OFFICE..??” Here is my reply:

‘I am deeply honored that you would associate me with a true American Heroe like Gen. Powell; a man who strapped on a pair and left blood on the battlefield in defense of our nation. And you are correct, we share many of the same views and can view reality with objective lens instead of being clouded from reality by rabid partisanship. By the way, I have a personal contact database with over 17,000 contacts across the nation (and growing) of Republicans & Independents who share my views. And frankly, the fact that you’re not concerned by — or worse, can’t see — the radical extremeist direction (e.g., a “whites only voter strategy..??!!) of our party is deeply troubling. I fear for your conscience.

In terms of failed presidencies, I cannot think of a bigger failure in the role of POTUS than the man we just booted out of office. The only one I can think to rival Bush would be Carter — they’re in the same category as failed Presidents, so … No matter how poorly you think Obama is doing, this much is certain: President Obama can never equal Bush’s utter failure as President and his incompetence as a world leader — an adminission even conceded by members of his own family, and a growing list of notable Republicans. Only the lunatic fringe still cling to Bush/Cheney as an example of “leadership.”

As you know, the stock market as a leading indicator of economic direction. For the record, the Obama Stock Market Rally is +43% year to date against the March 9th bottom. Housing starts AND home purchases are up again; mortgage application are up over +20 vs same time last year; autos sales are up +14% on the back of the President’s successful cash for clunkers program; unemployment (job losses) has slowed from 700,000 job losses per month when Bush left office, to 150,000 per month six months into this President’s tenure. Credit is beginning to flow again, gas prices are down — in the middle of the higher price driving season!! — etc, etc, etc. There are sooooooo many positive indicators of Obama’s success in just six months that you’d be able to hear if only you would stop screaming long enough to hear. By year’s end, there will be even more economic good news heading into 2010 — an election year. So scream as much as you want now. Come the Fall, the President’s poll numbers will start inching back up; and you’ll switch to some other reason to criticize, and to rally against the nation’s economic recovery.

The fact that polls are slipping says less about President Obama, than it does about the fickleness of the American public and our insatiable demand for instant gratification; as well as the fact that polling data include a vast cross-section of people like you who have never given this President — our President — a fair chance to succeed, and never will. If you were able to view President Obama objectively — something I don’t believe you’re capable of — then you would realize that President Obama has accomplished more in six months in office than most Presidents do in a full term. Here’s a list to help you put it into perspective:
Signed executive orders to close the U.S. military prison at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, within a year, ban torture and end the CIA’s secret overseas prisons and define treatment of Detainees.

It is funny & hypocritical that when fanatic conservative fear-mongers try to hijack the democratic process or ratchet-up their mob violence at townhall meetings & tea parties, they feign indignance when the Dem/Lib grassroots organizers push back with similar tactics, the fringe wingnuts get self-righteous and indignant. This is what happens when incivility and fringe extremism flourishes, but conservatives more interested in rabid partisanship & cultural warfare took it there PURELY to oppose President Obama by any means. So like Wren said, what’s good for the goose, is good for the gander.

  12. Former Bush strategist Matthew Dowd, offered a message to conservatives on Sunday when he warned that the Republican Party was playing with fire on health care. In an internal RNC poll, which the Post obtained and reported, 54 percent of respondents said that America had “the best health care in the world,” but 70 percent said the system was “badly in need of reform.” The numbers were even larger among Independents and southern democrats.

Appearing on ABC’s “This Week,” Dowd cautioned conservatives to not go too far in pushing back against Obama’s agenda, lest they be blamed for actually preventing people from getting better health care coverage.

“I think the Republicans soon have to be careful of something,” Dowd said. “I know Republicans are all patting themselves on the back and saying, “We’ve got the Democrats on the run, Obama on the run.’ I don’t think it’s necessarily a good political place to be in by November if you’ve defeated any health care reform.”

Dowd’s remarks get at a looming reality in the current health care debate. There is a thin line between being credited for stopping the president and being blamed for defeating reform. While a majority of Americans like their current coverage, public polls show that similar or even greater percentages of the public believe the system is broken and in need of fixing.

    Comment by Wren | August 10, 2009 | Reply

    • Look where Bush’s advisers got us–two Congressional elections lost and all three branches of government under Democratic control. Now you Dems want to hold them up as an authority?

Dowd is part of the cancer in the Republican party that says we must become more like the Democrats to win. That’s a load of bull. Following that line of thinking is what made the American people lose faith in the Republican party, and it’s what created much of the economic mess we’re in now.

I won’t be betting on the liberal wing of the Republican party in November 2010.

  14. From the Local Missouri paper today:

GLADNEY THE UNINSURED ACTIVIST…. Over the last few days, a conservative activist in St. Louis named Kenneth Gladney seems to have become something of a cause celebre in far-right circles. Depending on which version of events you choose to believe, Gladney either initiated or was involved in a scuffle at a town-hall event late last week.

At least one prominent conservative blogger said Gladney was “brutally attacked” by SEIU members outside the event. After watching the video, there’s ample reason for skepticism. Gladney was, in fact, pulled to the ground during the fracas, but he seemed to bounce back up quickly, and is seen walking around soon after without any obvious injuries. His attorney has argued that Gladney was beaten during the fight, but there’s nothing in the clip to support that.

Gladney later went to the hospital, claiming to have sustained injuries to his “knee, back, elbow, shoulder and face.”

Yesterday, about 200 conservative activists held a protest in St. Louis. Gladney was there — bandaged and in a wheelchair — as a featured guest, with his lawyer, David Brown.

Brown finished by telling the crowd that Gladney is accepting donations toward his medical expenses. Gladney told reporters he was recently laid off and has no health insurance. [emphasis added]

Wait, the conservative opponent of health care reform, fighting (literally) to defeat a plan that would bring coverage to those who lose their jobs, lost his health coverage because he got laid off?

  20. John,

Congratulations! With the historic American Healthcare Reform Act being signed into law today by PRESIDENT BARACK HUSSEIN OBAMA, we won’t have to worry about filing bankruptcy or dying prematurely because we can’t afford access to decent healthcare; or being unfairly booted off by the multi-billion dollar insurance company tactics due to pre-existing conditions (which we all have!).

Unfortunately, like Civil Rights, Womens Voting and the plight of the unemployed, our party, the Republican party, was again on the wrong side of history. I am going to be writing about this on my Blog (www.RepublicansForObama.org). I hope you follow it, and share it with other Republicans, as I am going to continue to fight to make OUR party more reflective of the people and values of today’s America — not yesterday’s. Here’s a brief excerpt; feel free to disagree, but I still respect your views as a fellow Republican — although I’m NOT of the lunatic ilk.

‘This is truly a fundamental fight about the character of our nation. That is, what kind of nation are we going to be in the 21st century..??

According to Newt Gingrich: “This will not stand. Sunday was a vote…unworthy of the United States of America.” A sentiment that directly brings into stark contrast the question of the character of our nation. Whether, we will be a Hobbesian nation – where life is solitary, hard, nasty, brutish and short — whose values are defined by the ilk of Newt Gingrich, Rush Limabaugh and Michelle Malk — a modern Sparta ruled by corporate overlords, unregulated free markets, social darwinism and endless warmongering. Or whether, like every other industrial wealthy nation in the world; and as our Founding Fathers challenges us “to form a more perfect union,” we will be a Lockean nation – progressive, enlightened, humane and balanced; concerned about the health and welfare of our citizens and the global competitiveness of our businesses…

Tea Party protesters in a crowd backed by Republican lawmakers called Rep. John Lewis (D-Ga.) a “nigger” and at least one protester spat on Rep. Emanuel Cleaver (D-MO). The flagrant violation of Congressional decorum when one Republican Congressman loudly shouting “baby killer!” to a fellow Congressman (who was actually trying to ensure no federal funding for abortion under Healthcare reform) on the floor of the House of Representatives…are the same kinds of people who think of themselves as “patriots” and dutifully go Bible-toting on Sunday mornings (Luke 23:34). The Wingnuttery of the conservative Lunatic Fringe most decidedly do not reflect the “character” of the nation I love. I want to raise my children in a society that honors the debt of my ancestors from the very first inception of this great nation. A debt built on the sweat of their backs, the blood in their veins, and often by their very lives – sometimes in gross injustices. I want to raise my children in a society that honors the values of the U.S. Constitution and the Declaration of Independence. You know, provide for the general welfare and domestic tranquility; a life in the pursuit happiness; we hold these truths to be self evident, that all men are created equal. I mean, you need to be healthy in order to live freely and pursue happiness, don’t you..?? Sometimes I wonder, are these people truly reading the same Bible, and about the same Jesus (Matt 5:3-14), and the same Declaration of Independence that I’m reading..??’

Still, I am proud that, at least for today, the TRUE character of our nation prevailed. One of care and concern for the health and well-being of ordinary working American families & children; and the for global competitiveness of our small business that no longer will be burdened with unsustainable healthcare costs.
